Belfast Telegraph How mindfulness can stop you from sleepwalking through life Belfast Telegraph Second, what's your posture: sitting, lying or standing? Third, where are you and what's going on around you?
Mindfulness is the key to so many positives, not just the fkavour of the month!
Mindfulness. A new, hot topic in the West only starting to become more mainstream within the last ten years. But what -- exactly -- is mindfulness and what do you have to do to achieve it?
Padraig O'Morain says it's time to wake up; and he believes mindfulness is the key. As a teacher to many people, including doctors, nurses, rescue workers, HR managers, teachers and students, the practice of mindfulness can help to lower stress and give you a sense of well-being.
"Essentially, mindfulness involves returning your attention again and again to whatever is going on right now – whether that's just breathing, walking, listening to another person or eating." It's about noticing feelings -- suspending judgement and not engaging with them -- but instead returning your attention to whatever else is going on for you.
"Acceptance is also a big part of mindfulness." You have a bad day at the office. Instead of rehashing it over and over again; you accept it as it is. You become a witness to what is happening and how you feel about it -- not trying to change anything -- just observing -- noticing.
With continued practice, you will have less anxiety; an increased sense of happiness; and ultimately cease your sleepwalk through life.
