ff Venture Capital Is First VC Fund To Raise Capital Under The JOBS Act

ff Venture Capital Is First VC Fund To Raise Capital Under The JOBS Act | Portfolia | Scoop.it

ff Venture Capital is the first VC to Raise a fund under The JOBS Act:  "The ban on general solicitation...This hinders VCs from letting anyone know they are raising capital, and sharing their historical performance, infrastructure, and capabilities.  Thus, capital has flowed to players with brand, history, and lots of well-known companies on their website, not based on their actual returns. "

Trish Costello's insight:

The Venture Capital industry, as we have known it for the last 50+ years,  is forever changed by all aspects of crowdfunding, or as we see it, collaborative investing.    Look to the media industry to see an analog of the future.  The 'best of the best' will always be successful, but the traditional Venture capital firm will be but one option to finance entrepreneurs.

Who Gave This Asshole $6.5 Million to Launch a Bro-Tastic Lady Site?

Who Gave This Asshole $6.5 Million to Launch a Bro-Tastic Lady Site? | Portfolia | Scoop.it
Something beautiful happened yesterday: an otherwise fractious internet was drawn together in harmony, united in mutual contempt for a new website called Bustle.
Trish Costello's insight:

This is so ridiculous I honestly thought it was one of those joke websites!  What were these otherwise competent Silicon Valley VCs thinking?

$6.5M with a two-slide deck to a clueless, insulting dude trying to target women because he's locked out of his 'bro-sports' market by a non-compete.

While teams of smart, experienced rock-star women--who know these markets and can deliver the goods--are turned down every week on Sand Hill Road.

Perhaps its time to redefine  'smart money.'    Portfolia is launching communities of smart consumer-investors who identify and back the teams, products and companies we want to see succeed.  And when they make money so do we.

Let's say no to Bryan and Bustle.

Trish Costello's insight:

Listen to Fred Wilson's take on the disruption of the VC industry that will come about by individuals combining their money to fund start-ups.  Portfolia, launching in August, is just such a micro-investment platform.  It lets consumers become shareholders as they back teams and products they believe in --then engage their networks to make them successful.   Companies gain both money and markets as their backers focus their social networks and combined buying power to capture the markets.  We know how to do this!
