"Here's why Obama's new pact with Canada is a big deal" | Mother Jones Magazine | 03/10/16 | Politics From My Point Of View | Scoop.it

"It could fix a big problem with his climate legacy"

Franklin Delano Williams's insight:

FROM THE ARTICLE: "This is important because sources of methane emissions that exist right now (currently operating wells, pipes, storage facilities, etc.) will continue to account for a major share of emissions into the future. Recent studies by the Environmental Defense Fund found that in both the United States and Canada, up to 90 percent of oil- and gas-sector methane emissions in 2020 will come from sources that already exist today.

In other words, because it ignored existing sources, Obama's previous methane policy was pretty toothless. The new rules announced today will have more teeth.

"There's a dramatic change in policy that is extremely welcome," said Jonathan Banks, senior climate adviser at the Clean Air Task Force...."

Franklin Delano Williams's insight:

QUOTE FROM ARTICLE: “We don’t need any more members in this club. The membership is too high for this club,” said Gwen Carr, whose son Eric Garner was choked to death by a New York City police officer in 2014. “She has proved to us, one by one, that we do matter in her campaign. "Kanye West's Yeezy Season 3 Event: A Fashion Show All Its Own" | Pret-a-Reporter | 02/11/16

"Kanye West's Yeezy Season 3 Event: A Fashion Show All Its Own" | Pret-a-Reporter | 02/11/16 | Politics From My Point Of View | Scoop.it
It looked like the top of a chocolate soufflé at first, the parachute fabric that puffed into the shape of a dome and spread across the floor of Madison Square Garden as the nearly 20,000 guests trickled in for Kanye West's Yeezy Season 3 event — arguably this season’s most anticipated New York Fashion Week show. It was evident from the moment it began that the show would channel the sort of scale that Parisian fashion houses like Dior, Louis Vuitton and Chanel are known for (Karl Lagerfeld, for example, transformed the Grand Palais into a flight terminal for his spring collection in September). But ultimately, it was hard to compare the event to any other fashion show that has come before it.
Franklin Delano Williams's insight:

.....Our son, Morgan Bobrow-Williams, said this about the show, "Today I got to be in the Yeezy Season 3 Show and it was definitely an experience. The album was next level and Season 3 is fire. Thankful"

"Black Culture and History Matter" | American Prospect Magazine | Winter 2016 | Politics From My Point Of View | Scoop.it
It took 150 years after America officially abolished slavery to get a national museum on the black experience.
Franklin Delano Williams's insight:

QUOTE FROM ARTICLE:

"THE NMAAHC HAS been long in the making—100 years, to be precise. Its genesis dates to 1915. Fifty years earlier, in May 1865, President Andrew Johnson organized a Grand Review of the Armies to honor the troops. But black soldiers who had fought in the Civil War were not allowed to join the military procession from Capitol Hill down Pennsylvania Avenue.

In 1915, at the 50th anniversary of the original Union victory parade, black Union veterans were permitted to participate. A Committee of Colored Citizens was organized to help defray expenses. The veterans group would evolve into the National Memorial Association, which lobbied Congress to authorize the construction of a Negro Memorial."

"Rural Youth Caucus: Here We Come" | Daily Yonder | 03/09/16

"Rural Youth Caucus: Here We Come" | Daily Yonder | 03/09/16 | Politics From My Point Of View | Scoop.it

Last weekend 25 rural young people from across the country  met in Washington, D.C., for a community-building workshop sponsored by YouthBuild USA’s Rural and Native Initiative. The Daily Yonder was there to document the event.

This was my fifth year at the YouthBuild Rural Youth Caucus. I love going. I always leave full of hope, an odd feeling for me. It’s three days of watching young folks leave their comfort zones, travel to a big city (for many their first time out of their state), then bond with absolute strangers over what they have in common and what they hope for in their hometowns. It’s inspiring.

YouthBuild USA is a national organization that gives youth from low-income families an opportunity to learn construction and life management skills as they build houses for others in need.

Franklin Delano Williams's insight:

.....Next year, Sparta-Hancock Alliance for Revitalization and Empowerment, Inc. (S.H.A.R.E., Inc.) hopes to have a delegation attending this event.  We are applying for a YouthBuild Project this year.

Franklin Delano Williams's insight:

DETAILS:March 8th is International Women’s Day, and we’re so excited for the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women around the world.

Hillary Clinton has been a champion for women and girls her entire career. From co-founding the Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families in 1977, to elevating women’s rights as First Lady, Senator and Secretary of State, Clinton has a proven record of fighting for gender equality.

Join us next Tuesday and stand with women all over the country by hosting a house party in your community. In the coming days, we’ll be sharing digital organizing tools and talking points you can use to spread the word on how Hillary will continue to fight for women as President. We will also be hosting a conference call in the evening with a very special guest who will be joining us to spotlight Hillary’s record.

If you’re interested in hosting a house party, please email womensoutreach@hillaryclinton.com and we’ll follow up with more information!

Duckweed USA will also create about 250 jobs in the area within the next five years.
Franklin Delano Williams's insight:

........SPARTA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A biofuel company is breathing life back into Sparta.

Duckweed USA considers Sparta’s waste water treatment plant a gold mine. The company’s CEO, Michael Rigolizzo, fell in love with the city during a business trip about three years ago. He wants to renovate the treatment facility and use the duckweed at the plant to create biofuel. He’s also going to give some of the profit back to the city.

"Forget New Hampshire: It’s Still Clinton vs. Trump" | Rasmussen Reports™ | 02/10/16 | Politics From My Point Of View | Scoop.it

Consider Rasmussen Reports’ latest look at the Republican race nationally which we published on Monday. Trump still holds a double-digit lead over his closest rivals for the nomination.......

On the Democratic side, yesterday’s winner is highly unlikely to carry that success much further. Rasmussen Reports’ latest survey of the Democratic raceshows Hillary Clinton’s support nationally little changed in recent months: She leads Sanders 50% to 32%. Twelve percent (12%) like some other candidate, and six percent (6%) are undecided......

Franklin Delano Williams's insight:

.....Most of the contests through March are in states with sizable minority populations and older voters that favor Clinton.
