The Maker Movement and the Rebirth of Constructionism - Hybrid Pedagogy

The Maker Movement and the Rebirth of Constructionism - Hybrid Pedagogy | POLITICS | Scoop.it
The culmination of my quest for more powerful learning grounded in theory and research came when recently I conducted an experiment in pushing constructionism into the digital age.

Constructionism is based on two types of construction. First, it asserts that learning is an active process, in which people actively construct knowledge from their experience in the world. People don’t get ideas; they make them. This aspect of construction comes from the constructivist theory of knowledge development by Jean Piaget. To Piaget’s concept, Papert added another type of construction, arguing that people construct new knowledge with particular effectiveness when they are engaged in constructing personally meaningful products.

Imagine my surprise and joy when I realized that I had arrived at constructionism prior to knowing that such a theory even existed. I believe that thousands of other educators are unknowingly working within the constructionist paradigm as well. Although many within the Maker movement are aware that it has it’s roots in constructionism, the movement is gaining impressive momentum without the majority of Makers realizing that there is a strong theoretical foundation behind their work.

After I came to understand this connection between my practices and the supporting theoretical framework I was better able to focus and refine my practice. Even more importantly, I felt more confident and powerful in forging ahead with further experiments in the learning situations I design for my learners.

INTEGRATIONS MIDLER ANVENDES FORTSAT TIL VEDLIGEHOLDELSE AF GODSEJERE FORSØMTE GÅRD

Lad os få de virkelige forbrydere i fængsler !

Leah Lesley Christensen's insight:

The European Drug Report and its Misplaced ‘Concern for Cannabis Users’ by @Monthrie

The European Drug Report and its Misplaced ‘Concern for Cannabis Users’ by @Monthrie | POLITICS | Scoop.it

Following a pattern that is quickly becoming a tired cliché in drug policy, we once again find prohibition exacerbating the very problems it claims to help solve. More than this, though, by perpetuating a myth about cannabis harms which seems alien to so many users of cannabis, the EMCDDA fails to advance the debate about how best to minimize the risks of cannabis use, instead appearing disconnected from the real facts at hand.

Cannabis isn’t as concerning as forced treatment for non-problem users, and the authors of the European Drug Report would have done well to make that clear.

Via Julian Buchanan
Leah Lesley Christensen's insight:

I believe that there is a concentrated on-going international effort to seize all and every bit of cannabis available on the market after which the authorities plan to PATENT it and sell the product at extra-ordinary profit rates. It is merely a question of the greedy ensuring they have their usual sole and exclusive rights before Cannabis becomes legal throughout all communities. Activists who are fighting to get the product legally approved, seem to by-pass this vital piece of information which can have major draw backs on especially the sick, who need the product for cures and building and other sectors that easily could have the product available in fair quantities at fair prices - if they manage to react in time to the dangers they face of PRICE FIXING by the sickly-greedy.

Labour support for Dugdale nosedives after she says Corbyn is not cut out to be PM | POLITICS | Scoop.it
SUPPORT for Scottish Labour leadership candidate Kezia Dugdale plummeted after she attacked UK favourite Jeremy Corbyn, a senior party source has told The National.

As the contest north of the Border enters its crucial final week, the well-placed insider said several party members had claimed they had regretted voting for the Lothian MSP after she accused the popular anti-austerity candidate for lacking the credentials to become Prime Minister and said he would would leave Labour “carping from the sidelines”.

Drug decriminalisation in Portugal: Setting the record straight | by @TransformDrugs

Drug decriminalisation in Portugal: Setting the record straight | by @TransformDrugs | POLITICS | Scoop.it

The reality is that Portugal’s drug situation has improved significantly in several key areas. Most notably, HIV infections and drug-related deaths have decreased, while the dramatic rise in use feared by some has failed to materialise. However, such improvements are not solely the result of the decriminalisation policy; Portugal’s shift towards a more health-centred approach to drugs, as well as wider health and social policy changes, are equally, if not more, responsible for the positive changes observed. Drawing on the most up-to-date evidence, this briefing clarifies the extent of Portugal’s achievement, and debunks some of the erroneous claims made about the country’s innovative approach to drugs
