Rick Perry Hopes Combination of Wearing Glasses and Not Talking Will Make Him Seem Smarter

Rick Perry Hopes Combination of Wearing Glasses and Not Talking Will Make Him Seem Smarter | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
“After the 2012 Republican primary, we knew that we needed to solve what we called the Governor’s smartness problem.”
Dave Cottrell's insight:

Liberal politicians have known this for years:  When common sense requires hard decisions, obfuscate, rather than make decisions, never make a clear statement about anything, just in case it's not the most popular thing to say, and when all else fails, try to look good and keep quiet.  Sometimes saying "fuddle duddle" works, too...

CHARLES HURT: America faces most dangerous two years in 150 years

CHARLES HURT: America faces most dangerous two years in 150 years | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
If President Obama suffered a “shellacking” in the 2010 elections, then what he endured Tuesday night was nothing short of a vicious gangland beatdown the likes of which have rarely been seen before in the history of electoral politics.
Dave Cottrell's insight:

Here is one political pundit I agree with, while at the same time hope is very wrong.  Unfortunately, Mr. Obama has continually shown that he has no problem using executive orders, even when they break the law (which eventually the Supreme Court confirms) and trample the constitution.  The only answer may be an unfortunate one, to impeach.  Let's hope that never becomes necessary.  The USA is supposed to be a democracy, not a tyranny.  The people have spoken, and the president must truly listen and obey their will.

‘Nuclear Expert’ Among Dead in Iranian Nuclear Plant Explosion

‘Nuclear Expert’ Among Dead in Iranian Nuclear Plant Explosion | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
At least two people are dead and and unknown number wounded in Iran in a blast at the Parchin military nuclear site.
Dave Cottrell's insight:

One must wonder why a nuclear enrichment facility used "only for peaceful purposes" is run by the army and has material in it that produced an accidental blast big enough to take out windows nine miles away...

"“It is important to emphasize that these kinds of tests can have no ‘dual use’ explanation, since the only possible purpose of such internal neutron sources is to ignite the nuclear chain reaction in nuclear weapons,” Steintz added."

Leo DiCaprio Gives Up Oil Sheikh’s Super-Yacht to Walk in NYC #ClimateMarch Parade | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
Leonardo DiCaprio took over the world's fifth largest yacht to watch the world cup in Brazil this year. The 482-foot Topaz, worth £400million, is owned by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, deputy prime minister of the United Arab Emitates…
Dave Cottrell's insight:

United Nothing, as some in Israel so aptly call the organization that makes dozens of proclamations against Israel for human rights violations for the way it defends itself, while completely ignoring the tens of thousands butchered by Assad, and the horrible human rights records of China, Iran and North Korea, just to name a few, has outdone itself in making Leonardo DiCaprio their poster boy environmental spokesman, a man who burns enough fuel for travel every years to heat hundreds of homes in the US.  Sick...

UN Watch - UN interpreter, unaware that her microphone was on, uttered words of truth in reaction to the General Assembly’s adoption of nine politically-motivated resolutions condemning Israel, and... | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
Dave Cottrell's insight:

"...the one who should really apologize today is the UN. Founded on noble ideals, the world body is turning the dream of liberal internationalists into a nightmare.

For by the end of its annual legislative session next month, the General Assembly will have adopted a total of 22 resolutions condemning Israel—and only four on the rest of the world combined. The hypocrisy, selectivity, and politicization are staggering."

How Peace Negotiator Martin Indyk Cashed a Big, Fat $14.8 Million Check From Qatar, and No One Noticed | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
buried deep in the Times’ epic snoozer was a world-class scoop related to one of the world’s biggest and most controversial stories—something so startling, and frankly so grotesque, that I have to bring it up again here: Martin Indyk, the man who ran John Kerry’s Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, whose failure in turn set off this summer’s bloody Gaza War, cashed a $14.8 million check from Qatar. Yes, you heard that right: In his capacity as vice president and director of the Foreign Policy Program at the prestigious Brookings Institution, Martin Indyk took an enormous sum of money from a foreign government that, in addition to its well-documented role as a funder of Sunni terror outfits throughout the Middle East, is the main patron of Hamas

Crossing the Line - The Texas Observer

Crossing the Line - The Texas Observer | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
When the Keystone XL pipeline came through Lori Collins’ farm near Paris, Texas, she welcomed it—until her house flooded with sewage.
Dave Cottrell's insight:

This should scare the daylights out of anybody anywhere near a place where any pipeline related in any way to TransCanada Corporation is going through.  That includes the one from Alberta to through British Columbia to Kitimat, BC.  If they will treat people like this small ranch family in Texas the way they did, what will they do if a pipeline spills into a major river, or someone on the bridge of a super tanker makes a mistake and a tanker sinks in Douglas Channel or the Inside Passage?

Here is what Lori Collins, once a strong and vocal advocates for pipelines and the oil industry had to say, after the way she and her family were treated by TransCanada when TransCanada's Keystone XL pipeline came through their farm in Paris, Texas:

"She had looked out at the people listening to her, “all these people fighting for their land and livelihood,” festive in their movement shirts and tribal attire, and she thought, “You all are screwed. The company is going to take your land, promise you everything in the world, but they won’t come through.’ Those people will never know life as they’ve known it before,” she said. “It’ll just be them and their paradise that’s turned into hell.”  "

Contradicting comments from his top military advisers, President Obama told U.S. troops Wednesday that American forces “do not and will not have a combat mission” in the campaign to defeat Islamic State militants in Syria and Iraq.
Dave Cottrell's insight:

Unless President Obama, who has ZERO military experience, is willing to listen to his MILITARY advisors, top soldiers with experience, the campaign to defeat ISIS is doomed from the beginning.  When a man with no military experience tells battle hardened soldiers how to do their jobs, it's like the janitor telling the brain surgeon how to remove a tumour.

Dave Cottrell's insight:

It's no skin off DiCaprio's back when the price of food doubles because of carbon taxes and other things driving the price of the fuel that runs farm equipment and transportation to market through the roof.  He probably wouldn't even notice if a cob of corn when from 25 cents to a dollar.  But in impoverished areas around the globe, it could cause starvation.  Is that what this ACTOR (note, not a scientist!) wants?

The big service ISIS is doing the West right now is checking Iranian power, just as the Sunni rebels inside Syria are keeping the Iranian agent Hezbollah in check, and just as the PLO is keeping Hamas in check, at least to some degree.

A pragmatic and intelligent take on the ISIS crisis.

I just returned from New York, where I attended my 30th Columbia University reunion. I celebrated with my esteemed classmates. Everyone except Barack Obama. As usual- he wasn’t there. Not even a video greeting. Not...

Dave Cottrell's insight:

What is the real story?  Why is no one in the media asking?  Where did the sitting president of the United States come from?  Why the secrecy?  Would it not be better to lay all these questions to rest and open the sealed documents, once and for all?

"Keep in mind these people I spoke to are all- to a man and woman- dedicated liberal Democrats who voted for Obama. I’m guessing 90% are major Democrat contributors. My Columbia classmates are the crème of the crop of American society. Lawyers, doctors, billionaire hedge fund members, stars of the media. They adore Obama.
