Reid warns Nevada cattle rancher who faced down feds: ‘It’s not over’ | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
Nevada Democratic Sen. Harry Reid had an ominous message Monday for Clive Bundy, the Nevada rancher who successfully faced down federal agents attempting to seize his herd for illegal grazing:
Dave Cottrell's insight:

So, I guess Harry Reid is declaring that it IS ok to break the law if your'e a federal politician...

QUOTE:  "...Reid’s reported lobbying of the BLM to change the desert tortoise’s mapped habitat, allowing Nevada real estate mogul Harvey Whittemore to build on land near the Bundy’s ranch."

Foreign journalists reveal Hamas' false front

Foreign journalists reveal Hamas' false front | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
News: The world didn't believe Israel, but it might believe foreign reporters who were afraid to report real-time but now tell all: Hamas HQ at Al-Shifa Hospital, launchers near UN facilities, threats and staged bombed scenes.
Dave Cottrell's insight:

The truth now begins to trickle out, truth, that if reported directly during the conflict, would have cost the reporting journalists their lives.

"Why didn't they report those facts during the ongoing fighting? According to the reporters, they feared for their lives. "We saw the Hamas men," a Spanish reporter admitted. "But had we dared point the cameras at them, they would have opened fire at us and killed us."

Opinion, Shimon Shiffer: Analysis: Forget about demilitarizing Gaza and disarming Hamas. Things will remain unchanged – until the next round.

"We will remember two images from this war: The first is of children in a kindergarten in Hod Hasharon, lying down with their small hands on their heads, seeking shelter from the shrapnel of the rockets the villains launched at them. The second image is of the havoc and destruction left by the heavy bombardments of Gaza."

ISIS: We Will Raise Flag of Allah in White House

ISIS: We Will Raise Flag of Allah in White House | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
The Islamic State has warned the United States that it plans to attack America and raise "the flag of Allah in the White House."
Dave Cottrell's insight:

It is unlikely that the US will be able to use air strikes alone against ISIS, and unfortunately and sadly, very likely that there will be US boots on the ground again, in Iraq, and possibly much farther afield. Also likely is that the US will call on NATO (not UN) allies to join them.  The world is blowing up into WWIII.  People keep talking about the possibility of that happening, but I think it really is here and the pundits are simply afraid to call it.  May God protect our young men and women, and the peaceful majority who only want to live out their lives and raise their kids.

Gaza’s Palestinians: Trapped Under Hamas

Gaza’s Palestinians: Trapped Under Hamas | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
It is heart wrenching to see Gaza's civilian population suffering because of Hamas’ ongoing war against Israel. But they......
Dave Cottrell's insight:

"Since August, 2005, when Israel completely evacuated from Gaza, Hamas and its allies have  launched over 11,000 rockets and mortars into Israel, determined to hit something significant and kill Israelis.  Initially, Israel didn’t have Iron Dome, so its only protection was the Red Alert siren that gave everyone—children, adults and senior citizens alike—only 15 to 45 seconds to run to the safety of a bomb shelter.  In fact, Hamas helped turn the Israeli border city of Sderot into the bomb shelter capital of the world."

Random Thoughts: JOHN KERRY--A PRIZE FROM ALFRED--BUT WHICH ONE? | Politics and Business | Scoop.it

Why do I think the Secretary of State might be deserving of the Prize?  Well, when was the last time we've seen Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Egyptian President al-Sissi, Jordan's King Hussein, the Saudi's, and the United Arab Emirates all united and in agreement? No, I can't remember that time either.

Dave Cottrell's insight:

John Kerry has done more to embolden Hamas and governments that support terrorism than anything these terrorists could ever have hoped to achieve on their own.

AJC: UN Human Rights Council Condemns Israel, Absolves Hamas

AJC: UN Human Rights Council Condemns Israel, Absolves Hamas | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
To enhance the well-being of the Jewish people and Israel, and to advance human rights and democratic values around the world.

Combating anti-Semitism and all forms of bigotry;
Promoting pluralism and shared democratic values;
Supporting Israel's quest for peace and security;
Advocating for energy independence;
Strengthening Jewish life.
Dave Cottrell's insight:

All one has to do to realise that the UN Human Rights Council is extremely biased is to see the reports coming out of Syria, where the BBC reports 1700 people were killed in one week by ISIS and others.  Where is the UN there?  Where is the UN in Iraq?  Oh, yeah... in those countries it's Arab against Arab... wonder why they don't say anything about that?  Could it have anything to do with the fact that Arab countries hold the balance of power in the UN, a fact that kept Canada from getting a seat on the UN Security Council for the first time in its history, because Canada was the one country bold enough to stand up for Israel's right to exist?

Hundreds die in Syria 'deadliest week'

Hundreds die in Syria 'deadliest week' | Politics and Business | Scoop.it

More than 1,700 people have been killed in seven days as fighting intensified after Presdent Assad was sworn in for a third term.

Dave Cottrell's insight:

Why isn't THIS all over the news?  Oh, yeah... they are too busy being anti-semitic in the Israel-Gaza conflict.  They don't care about Arabs butchering Arabs.  All most of the western news media cares about is making Israel look like monsters for defending their country against the constant rocket and missile attacks from Gaza.  But 1700 Arabs killed by Arabs?  That doesn't seem to bother anyone.  I can guarantee, though... if 100 Arabs were killed by Jews, the media would have a frenzy.  What a completely corrupt world we live in.  The media has proven that for all their teary eyed reports, they care WAY more about ratings than human life.

DEBKAfile’s quick guide to the perplexed reader: Israel, Gaza, the US and the faux-ceasefire

DEBKAfile’s quick guide to the perplexed reader: Israel, Gaza, the US and the faux-ceasefire | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
After a month of fighting in Gaza and the onset of another surreal ceasefire, debkafile’s sources clue in those readers who are understandably a bit baffled about the war and where Israel stands: Although a five-day ceasefire was announced in Cairo Wednesday night, neither Israel nor Hamas had by Friday, Aug. 15, officially acknowledged a truce is in place. Obama and Netanyahu continue to lock horns as Jerusalem runs the war without Washington’s input. As for the conflict's end, every effort at diplomacy with the Hamas terrorists has so far fallen flat.
Dave Cottrell's insight:

Even though Hamas has done their best to harm Israeli citizens, Israel continues to do all they can to make sure that the citizens of Gaza get what they need:

"Meanwhile, Thursday, 500 trucks loaded with food, medicines and other essentials rolled through the Kerem Shalom crossing into the Gaza Strip, continuing the supplies that never faltered in the course of the month-long IDF operation. This fits the general ambivalence of the Netanyahu government’s style of warfare.
Another round of talks has been scheduled to take place in Cairo next week."

Dave Cottrell's insight:

"The images from Gaza showed only what Hamas permitted the media to broadcast and describe. Hamas terrorized and censored journalists. It only allowed them to broadcast images of destruction and killing of civilians, particularly women and children, and staged situations on the ground.

"There were no images of rockets launched from populated areas and from within UNRWA schools, mosques and hospitals. There were only images of civilians' bodies and funerals and very few images of Hamas fighters, if any."

This is one of those times when I find myself in agreement with President Obama to take military action to prevent genocide.  I find myself (as usual) in disgust at John McCain and others whose political posturing and waffling proves their inability to take any real leadership roles in their country.  If John McCain had had his way back when Obama was threatening to use air strikes in Syria, the US would have bombed ASSAD, thereby actually giving aid to the rebels, including El Queda and ISIS.

Iran saving Hamas from bankruptcy

Iran saving Hamas from bankruptcy | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
Opinion, Yaron Friedman: Analysis: Islamic organization is sacrificing Gaza's residents in the battle against Israel in order to receive funds and weapons from Tehran.
Dave Cottrell's insight:

If article sounds really confusing, it is.  This uneasy partnership between Shiia and Sunni Muslims is always tentative, changing, and easily explodes into factious battles among the two groups.  Perhaps the following quote demonstrates the relationship between Hamas and Iran best:

"Hamas politburo chief Khaled Mashal praised Iran in an interview from Cairo in November 2012 for its aid to Gaza during Operation Pillar of Defense. Iran's Revolutionary Guards commander, Mohammad Ali Jafari, rushed to deny that Iran was supplying Gaza with missiles, including Fajr-5 missiles which are capable of reaching Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

But Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani admitted recently that Iran was supplying Hamas with "weapon-building technology." A huge poster hung on a wall in Gaza recently showed the Palestinian and Iranian flags along with gratitude messages to Tehran in four languages."

Read the entire article... carefully.  I found it confusing, too, but then, the entire situation is confusing.

Alison Lundergan Grimes, the Kentucky Democrat challenging Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for reelection, told reporters that Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system prevents Hamas militants from tunneling into the Jewish state.
Iron Dome, a joint U.S.-Israel missile defense system, tracks rockets fired from Hamas bases in Gaza and destroys them in mid-air prior to impact. The highly successful program has saved unknown lives — nearly 9,000 rockets have been fired into Israel since the outbreak of hostilities three weeks ago.

The international team trying to save Syrian antiquities

The international team trying to save Syrian antiquities | Politics and Business | Scoop.it

The four-year civil war has killed more than 150,000 people and forced millions more to flee their homes. It is also, as documented by the BBC, destroying some of the world's most important art, buildings and monuments.

Dave Cottrell's insight:

The fact is, if the rebels win, especially if it is ISIS or even slightly more moderate elements of al Quaida and the Taliban, they will make a point of destroying all the antiquities that are not destroyed in the war.  There have already been reports of their desire to blow up the pyramids in Egypt if they ever get the chance.  They have already destroyed the massive and ancient statues of the Buddha in Afghanistan.  Their goal is to wipe the slate clean and usher in their own system on a clear and very barren field.

Here are very telling instructions that Hamas has given to its social media activists, regarding how to talk to fellow Muslim Arabs, vs how to talk to westerners:

[But when speaking] to a Western friend, start with the number of wounded and dead. Be sure to humanize the Palestinian suffering. Try to paint a picture of the suffering of the civilians in Gaza and the West Bank during the occupation's operations and its bombings of cities and villages."
