In a bold move made to widen their area of influence outside, the Islamic State captured a Syrian army base in a two-day assault.

Gaffe Watch: Alison Lundergan Grimes explains how Israel's Iron Dome protects against Hamas tunnels | WashingtonExaminer.com | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
Alison Lundergan Grimes, the Kentucky Democrat challenging Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for reelection, told reporters that Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system prevents Hamas militants from tunneling into the Jewish state.
Iron Dome, a joint U.S.-Israel missile defense system, tracks rockets fired from Hamas bases in Gaza and destroys them in mid-air prior to impact. The highly successful program has saved unknown lives — nearly 9,000 rockets have been fired into Israel since the outbreak of hostilities three weeks ago.

The international team trying to save Syrian antiquities

The international team trying to save Syrian antiquities | Politics and Business | Scoop.it

The four-year civil war has killed more than 150,000 people and forced millions more to flee their homes. It is also, as documented by the BBC, destroying some of the world's most important art, buildings and monuments.

Dave Cottrell's insight:

The fact is, if the rebels win, especially if it is ISIS or even slightly more moderate elements of al Quaida and the Taliban, they will make a point of destroying all the antiquities that are not destroyed in the war.  There have already been reports of their desire to blow up the pyramids in Egypt if they ever get the chance.  They have already destroyed the massive and ancient statues of the Buddha in Afghanistan.  Their goal is to wipe the slate clean and usher in their own system on a clear and very barren field.

Hamas Interior Ministry To Social Media Activists: Always Call The Dead 'Innocent Civilians'; Don't Post Photos Of Rockets Being Fired From Civilian Population Centers | Politics and Business | Scoop.it

Dave Cottrell's insight:

Here are very telling instructions that Hamas has given to its social media activists, regarding how to talk to fellow Muslim Arabs, vs how to talk to westerners:

"The narrative of life vs. the narrative of blood: [When speaking] to an Arab friend, start with the number of martyrs. [But when speaking] to a Western friend, start with the number of wounded and dead. Be sure to humanize the Palestinian suffering. Try to paint a picture of the suffering of the civilians in Gaza and the West Bank during the occupation's operations and its bombings of cities and villages."

"Go ahead, ask a Hebrew speaking friend to translate it for you, they’ll confirm this is what my Facebook post was about. But you’ll find not a trace of that in Resnick’s account. Perhaps it’s his own ignorance of the Hebrew language. After all, he got the text from Electronic Intifada, a website dedicated to daily and hourly vilification of my country."

Middle East and Terrorism: Gaza of Below and Gaza of Above

Two Gazas. The Gaza of above is held tragically hostage to Gaza of below. But there is a third Gaza: the Gaza that could have been. In 2005 Israel uprooted more than 8000 Israelis and more than twenty settlements from Gaza, in the hope that Gazans would build a prosperous society, with tourists flocking to its beautiful beaches and agriculture flourishing in the greenhouses Israel left behind. Since then the greenhouses have been smashed and Gazan society brutalised by the Hamas regime.

When this terrorist regime is finally disarmed and dismantled, this third Gaza may yet become a reality.

Dave Cottrell's insight:

Gaza of 2005 could have been the garden paradise of 2014.  Instead, Hamas has destroyed it.

Middle East and Terrorism: The Palestinian Rocket and Propaganda Offensive

Middle East and Terrorism: The Palestinian Rocket and Propaganda Offensive | Politics and Business | Scoop.it

Since Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip in 2005, Hamas and its co-jihadists have fired more than 8,000 rockets into Israel.  They have been conducting an unrelenting Nazi-style rocket blitz for years, except during cease-fires that are hastily negotiated after Israel strikes back. Hamas’s rocket blitz has intensified massively in recent days to new heights. Over the past several days, Hamas and Islamic Jihad have fired more than 550 rockets and mortars from Gaza into Israel, with the intent to kill and terrorize innocent civilians, including children.

Dave Cottrell's insight:

What the world fails to remember when they accuse Israel of being a repressive regime is that Israel withdrew completely from Gaza in 2005 and has done everything possible to keep the border open, including keeping it open while under Hamas rocket attacks to provide emergency medical help to Palestinians.

Why isn't THIS all over the news?  Oh, yeah... they are too busy being anti-semitic in the Israel-Gaza conflict.  They don't care about Arabs butchering Arabs.  All most of the western news media cares about is making Israel look like monsters for defending their country against the constant rocket and missile attacks from Gaza.  But 1700 Arabs killed by Arabs?  That doesn't seem to bother anyone.  I can guarantee, though... if 100 Arabs were killed by Jews, the media would have a frenzy.  What a completely corrupt world we live in.  The media has proven that for all their teary eyed reports, they care WAY more about ratings than human life.

Israel said it would target tunnels that could infiltrate its territory after cease-fire talks failed to de-escalate the air war that had raged for 10 days.
Dave Cottrell's insight:

The tunnels are a game changer, no doubt.  In fact, as the tunnel attack proved on Thursday, Hamas invaded Israel on the ground, first.  The Iron Dome missile defense system has protected Israel from most of the rockets, mortars and missiles from Gaza, but this is a whole different story.

"Amos Yadlin, director of Israel’s Institution for National Security Studies and former chief of military intelligence, similarly said in a radio interview earlier Thursday that the tunnel attack “clarified to those who were still wondering if it was right to conduct a ground move against certain points.”"

Dave Cottrell's insight:

"There has been a lot of criticism of Israel in the mainstream media in recent days, but much of it is quite hypocritical.  Just imagine what would happen in the U.S. if another country fired just one missile at New York City or at one of our nuclear reactors.  If that happened, "glass parking lot" would suddenly be on the lips of tens of millions of Americans all over the country, and the U.S. military would rapidly be preparing for an absolutely devastating response."
