Scooby SNAPs: New York organization offers ‘Pet Food Stamps’ | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
The number of people in America on food stamps remains at an all-time high, and now a new program is allowing Fido, Garfield and their peers to get in on the goods.
Dave Cottrell's insight:

No limits to the distance socialism will go in the USA...

Socialism, please. Try using the rest of the statement: "While the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a federal program administered by the states, Pet Food Stamps is a New York-based nonprofit that helps pet owners who can’t afford to support their animal friends.

“The Pet Food Stamps program … has been created to fill the void in the United States Food Stamp program which excludes the purchase of pet food and pet supplies. In these rough economic times, many pet owners are forced to abandon their beloved pet to the ASPCA, North Shore Animal League or other animal shelters due to the inability to pay for their basic food supply and care,”

Greece Rejects Bailout Deal - Deadline To Avoid Financial Chaos In Europe Is March 1st | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
Europe is on the verge of a horrifying financial meltdown, and there are only a few short weeks left to avert total disaster.  On Monday, talks that were supposed to bring about yet another temporary “resolution” to the Greek debt crisis completely fell apart.  The new Greek government has entirely rejected the idea of a [...]

What happens when principled politicians (like the present majority in Greece appear to be), stand up for what they believe, even if it is against all established financial wisdom?  We will be finding out shortly!

The revelation by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) came as part of a lawsuit filed by non-profit group Cause of Action, which began investigating whether the IRS was improperly sharing taxpayer information with the White House in 2012.
Dave Cottrell's insight:

This may be one of the most explosive things EVER to come out in American politics.  A watchdog group now has the records that prove that the IRS gave taxpayer information to the White House.

Ferguson fallout: Hillary Clinton, Ted Cruz, other 2016 hopefuls sidestep crisis, leave it to Obama

Ferguson fallout: Hillary Clinton, Ted Cruz, other 2016 hopefuls sidestep crisis, leave it to Obama | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
Four months of tension and violence in Ferguson, Missouri, may have lit a fuse under 24-hour television news, but the wall-to-wall coverage is attracting a far more muted response from those who aspire to be the next American president.
Dave Cottrell's insight:

'“Elizabeth Vega, a major agitator on the scene in Ferguson, spent Monday night leading an anti-police rally where she fired up the crowd into chanting, ‘F– the police!’ When it was all over, she walked back to where she’d parked her car and discovered it had been stolen. Wonder who she reported that crime to. Her friendly neighborhood community organizer?” Mr. Huckabee said.

“The most absurd protesters in America are all those who demand justice while baying for mob rule, who claim to oppose the unjust targeting of the innocent while burning and looting small businesses with no connection to the case and who posture as champions of African-Americans while destroying businesses owned by African-Americans, that serve African-Americans and that employ African-Americans,” he added.'

Egypt has no problems or qualms about blowing up Palestinian homes in Gaza to create a buffer zone along its border with the Hamas-led region.  Why is the world quiet when Egypt defends itself against Hamas, but goes completely nuts when Israel defends herself?

Facebook to tag satirical articles to stop users falling for the Onion's jokes | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
Facebook is testing a new feature intended to stop users accidentally falling victim to satirical websites like the Onion, hoping that tagging articles could stop users accidentally believing joke stories.

It is crazy that such a measure by Facebook is thought to be necessary, but perhaps it proves the point that far too many people will believe something, simply because they see it in print.

A pragmatic and intelligent take on the ISIS crisis.

"So why would the Greeks risk pushing Europe to the brink of utter disaster?

Well, it is because economic conditions in Greece have been absolutely hellish for years and they are sick and tired of it.

For example, the BBC is reporting that many married women have become so desperate to find work in Greece that they are literally begging to work in brothels…

Climate Change Researcher Reveals The Cold Truth About 'Global Warming'

Climate Change Researcher Reveals The Cold Truth About 'Global Warming' | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
John Casey, a former White House space program advisor, discovered evidence — buried right in the government's own environmental studies — that destroys their argument for 'global warming.' John has proven, once and for all, 'global warming'is a sham. Click here to learn more about the Cold Truth Initiative.
Dave Cottrell's insight:

'As The Wall Street Journal reported, “The assertion that 97% of scientists believe that climate change is a man-made, urgent problem is a fiction.”

When further review was done, it was discovered that a mere 1% of scientists believe human activity is causing most of the climate change.

In outrage, a petition was signed by more than 31,000 scientists that states “there is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of . . . carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gases is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate."'

CHARLES HURT: America faces most dangerous two years in 150 years

CHARLES HURT: America faces most dangerous two years in 150 years | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
If President Obama suffered a “shellacking” in the 2010 elections, then what he endured Tuesday night was nothing short of a vicious gangland beatdown the likes of which have rarely been seen before in the history of electoral politics.
Dave Cottrell's insight:

Here is one political pundit I agree with, while at the same time hope is very wrong.  Unfortunately, Mr. Obama has continually shown that he has no problem using executive orders, even when they break the law (which eventually the Supreme Court confirms) and trample the constitution.  The only answer may be an unfortunate one, to impeach.  Let's hope that never becomes necessary.  The USA is supposed to be a democracy, not a tyranny.  The people have spoken, and the president must truly listen and obey their will.

One must wonder why a nuclear enrichment facility used "only for peaceful purposes" is run by the army and has material in it that produced an accidental blast big enough to take out windows nine miles away...

How Peace Negotiator Martin Indyk Cashed a Big, Fat $14.8 Million Check From Qatar, and No One Noticed | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
buried deep in the Times’ epic snoozer was a world-class scoop related to one of the world’s biggest and most controversial stories—something so startling, and frankly so grotesque, that I have to bring it up again here: Martin Indyk, the man who ran John Kerry’s Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, whose failure in turn set off this summer’s bloody Gaza War, cashed a $14.8 million check from Qatar. Yes, you heard that right: In his capacity as vice president and director of the Foreign Policy Program at the prestigious Brookings Institution, Martin Indyk took an enormous sum of money from a foreign government that, in addition to its well-documented role as a funder of Sunni terror outfits throughout the Middle East, is the main patron of Hamas
