Operation ‘Protective Edge’ Begins in Response to Escalation of Terror

Operation ‘Protective Edge’ Begins in Response to Escalation of Terror | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
The IDF has begun Operation Protective Edge in response to the intense escalation of rocket fire from Gaza into southern Israel.
Dave Cottrell's insight:

“Since Operation Pillar of Defense in November 2012, Hamas has continued to arm itself with vast amounts of weaponry and is currently in possession of 10,000 rockets. Hamas deliberately and systematically exploits Palestinians and uses them as human shields when firing at Israel. Over 3.5 million Israelis are currently living under the threat of rocket attacks. No nation would accept this reality.”

ISIS Declares Caliphate, Calls on All Muslims to Join | Clarion Project

ISIS Declares Caliphate, Calls on All Muslims to Join | Clarion Project | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is now just the Islamic State. Yesterday it declared itself a Caliphate and its leader Caliph Ibrahim
Dave Cottrell's insight:

"On Sunday the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) declared itself a caliphate. It dropped 'Iraq and Syria from its name and now wishes to be known as the Islamic State. The announcement was made to coincide with the first day of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. They have also changed their flag."

"Only last week, senior Department of Homeland Security advisor Mohammed Elibiary tweeted that the recreation of an Islamic caliphate was inevitable and that the U.S. should support such an endeavor, comparing it to the European Union. "

I cannot understand how the USA even HAS a DHS advisor who would advocate a form of government that orders all unmarried young women to present themselves for "sex-jihad" with these brutal monsters.

Dave Cottrell's insight:

I was inspired to write this little ditty for Lois Lerner, sung to the tune of "Revolution," by the Beatles:

"Digital Solutions"

You say you wanna lose those emails
Well, you know
We all want to cover up
You tell me that it's your solution
Well, you know
We all want to save our butts

But when you talk about digital trails
Don't you know that you can't rub them out

Don't you know it's gonna be a bad night
A bad night, A bad night

You say you got away with the whole thing
Well, you know
We'd all like to let you know
You ask me for a war or something
Well, you know
We're all doing what we can

But if you want honey for people with minds that think
All I can tell you is sister you have to go

Don't you know it's gonna be a bad night
A bad night, A bad night

You say you'll trash the constitution
Well, you know
You've done a bang-up job
You tell me it's the GOP
Well, you know
You'd better find a decent place to hide

But if you go carrying pictures of Hillary
You ain't going to make it with anyone like me

Don't you know it's gonna be a bad night
A bad night, A bad night

A bad night, A bad night
A bad night, A bad night
A bad night, A bad night
Alright, alright

S"Stupid isA Durham, North Carolina restaurant with a sign on its front door reading, "No Weapons, No Concealed Firearms," was robbed at gunpoint on May 19.

Dave Cottrell's insight:

"Stupid is as stupid does..."  This was not even an issue until activists carrying big and to the uneducated, scary looking rifles entered the restaurant in a demonstration of their "right" to open carry.  As far as I can tell, the restaurant had no weapons policy before this demonstration of stupidity.  I support the right to bear arms, but not there IS no right to displays of stupidity that scare people.  This was brought on, in my opinion, by IRresponsible gun owners who just set back the rights of fellow respectable, and respectful gun owners in their community by light years.

Rick Perry Hopes Combination of Wearing Glasses and Not Talking Will Make Him Seem Smarter

Rick Perry Hopes Combination of Wearing Glasses and Not Talking Will Make Him Seem Smarter | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
“After the 2012 Republican primary, we knew that we needed to solve what we called the Governor’s smartness problem.”
Dave Cottrell's insight:

Liberal politicians have known this for years:  When common sense requires hard decisions, obfuscate, rather than make decisions, never make a clear statement about anything, just in case it's not the most popular thing to say, and when all else fails, try to look good and keep quiet.  Sometimes saying "fuddle duddle" works, too...

BLM Siege At Bunkerville - The Real Story

BLM Siege At Bunkerville - The Real Story | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
Senator Harry Reid rides to the rescue, BLM Siege At Bunkerville - The Real Story, Land, BLM auction, Harry, Rory, Lief Reid, Chinese, racism, cattle, first Amendment areas, No Fly Zones
Dave Cottrell's insight:

Pretty hard to put it much better than this:

"Cliven Bundy’s careless remarks should never have become the main topic of this story any more than Senator Reid’s careless “Light skinned with no Negro dialect unless he wanted to have one” remark about Barack Obama that was underplayed during the 2008 Presidential campaign, or then-Delaware Senator Joseph Biden’s careless (Obama is the) “first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy” remark in 2007 that was never criticized by the same media commentators who are now attacking Bundy for making equally careless racial remarks. (All three apologized after learning they offended people.)

A Senate Majority Leader and a Vice President were never called “hateful racist” fortheir remarks!  Why is a similar remark from a nobody rancher now making headlines? Maybe to distract from the real story - the BLM being used as a pawn in a land and water rights grab to benefit politically connected developers.

For the time being, the real story of the BLM siege at Bunkerville is lost in a haze of inciteful rhetoric. It’s time to get back on point before the BLM returns to complete their ominous orders."

Could We Live Without Pipelines and Tar Sands? | BC Sustainable Energy Association

Could We Live Without Pipelines and Tar Sands? | BC Sustainable Energy Association | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
So, Canada’s federal government has finally approved construction of the proposed Enbridge pipeline that is intended to carry bitumen from Alberta’s tar sands to Kitimat, and thence by ocean to China. If we do not go ahead, the Prime Minister warns us, Canada’s economy will be in grave danger.
Dave Cottrell's insight:

I am not a fan of windmills, having driven past miles and miles of these unsightly giants, spoiling what would otherwise be many beautiful natural settings.  Furthermore, they are pretty hard on migrating birds and bats, from some of the reports.  With that said, I am really happy to see people thinking outside of the "oil and gas" box and looking at new ideas.  Opposing pipelines simply is not enough;  we have to have viable alternatives and solutions, because like it or not, everything we do requires energy of some kind, and at it most basic, we require an inexpensive way (most of the world is still poor) to produce food and get it to the table.

US threatens to cut $10 million aid to Thailand (not a joke) | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
Michael Yon Online Magazine dispatches from the Frontline of Iraq and Afghanistan
Dave Cottrell's insight:

I wonder if the average American citizen realizes just how stupid and how massive a failure American foreign policy is at this time.  More than every before in history, DESPITE what many Americans think of the Bush years, the US is completely alienating itself against the rank-and-file citizens of other sovereign nations.  WAKE UP, AMERICA!  It's time for lawmakers in Washington to pay WAY more attention to what their representatives and the CIA are doing in other countries.

"Our CIA is clueless. Our Department of State is clueless. Our Ambassador sided with a criminal regime, and behaves like a bimbo whose calling was Hollywood.

But do not take my word for it. Web search for Kristie Kenney Twitter, and Kristie Kenney Instagram, and go to YouTube and web search for US Embassy Thailand videos. You will be appalled at how we are being represented, and how condescending our government is to Thailand."  - Michael Yon -

Clinton: Israel Offered the Temple Mount to the PA | Politics and Business | Scoop.it
Dave Cottrell's insight:

The fact is and always has been that the Palestinian Arabs will accept nothing less than the complete removal of Israel from existence.  This is how it is, today, and this is how it has been since the idea of turning the unorganized no man's land known as the British Mandate  (otherwise known, since the Romans renamed more than two thousand years ago, as Palestine) into two separate countries, one Arab and one Jewish, which was accepted by the Jews and rejected by the Arabs, in 1948.  The name, Palestine, was given to the region by the Romans as an insult to the Jews when they conquered the land.  The name meant, "Land of the Philistines."  The actual land of the Philistines, once known as Philistia, was the narrow piece of land along the Mediterranean that is today known as the Gaza Strip.  It was NEVER an Arab country.
