How to Answer the Question "What Was Your Last Salary?"

How to Answer the Question "What Was Your Last Salary?" | Current Events, Political & This & That | Scoop.it
When I was a kid working at Burger King, the minimum wage was $2.75 an hour. I didn't last long at that job. I got fired for calling in sick to go see the rock band Boston play at Madison Square
Olgy Gary's insight:

Excellent, EXCELLENT article! I loved how Ivo (the job seeker) answered Carol (a company recruiter) when Carol asked him how much he was earning at his current job! LOL. Loved the clear manner in which the article rightly describes plumbers and other tradespeople as being "way ahead of the suit-and-tie-crowd when it comes to saying what they think...they don't fawn and grovel the way job-seekers have been taught to do..."

That question is always on the line every job interview. And hard to answer as well. Tell me, what would be the best answer for that question?

"This campaign is highlighting some of the president’s better traits...over the course of this campaign it feels as if there’s been a decline in behavioral standards across the board. A brief history of America’s hostility to a previous generation of Mediterranean migrants — Italians

A brief history of America’s hostility to a previous generation of Mediterranean migrants — Italians | Current Events, Political & This & That | Scoop.it
A wave of migrants from the Mediterranean meets a hostile reception from many Americans. The migrants are seen as alien in religion, culture, politics, law. So different in fact that some Americans argue that they can never be assimilated. They are the Italians, in the 1890s.

Why Ted Cruz, Ben Carson, are bulk-buying copies of their own books

Why Ted Cruz, Ben Carson, are bulk-buying copies of their own books | Current Events, Political & This & That | Scoop.it
Among politicians and political candidates, it's a fairly widely-practiced, if somewhat less-than-honest, trend to buy their own book in bulk amounts.
Olgy Gary's insight:

Nothing quite illegal here...just borderline legal... Let's follow the NY Times' lead and don't list books like these as bestsellers. The NY Times' rationale for not listing them as bestsellers is sound: their high sales numbers are a result of the authors and/or their campaigns/PACs buying them in bulk, rather than what normally makes for a bestseller, i.e., large numbers of individuals buying a specific title.

The president's clearest defense of Black Lives Matter yet.
Olgy Gary's insight:

"Let me just suggest this: I think everybody understands all lives matter ... the reason that the organizers used the phrase 'black lives matter' was not because they were suggesting nobody else's life matters. Rather, what they were suggesting was there is a specific problem that is happening in the African-American community that's not happening in other communities." — Barack Obama

Canada is taking in 25,000 Syrian refugees before 2016, and all 10 provinces are on board | Current Events, Political & This & That | Scoop.it
On Tuesday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will detail plans to resettle 25,000 refugees from Syria throughout Canada by Dec. 31, even after the terrorist attacks in Paris have turned many politicians south of the Canadian border against President Obama's plan to admit 10,000 Syrian refugees by the end of 2016. "Everyone agrees that Canada must do more and must welcome 25,000 refugees," Trudeau said late Monday after meeting the premiers of Canada's 10 provinces. Former Prime Minister St
