Olgy Gary's insight:

This is good news. Religious terrorists, regardless of what religion we're talking about, are best contained by those in charge of that particular religion. The declarations noted in this article are strong. I hope they're not just words but that we see some teeth behind them.

The Daily Show - Race/Off - YouTube | Current Events, Political & This & That | Scoop.it
The shooting of an unarmed black teenager by the police in Ferguson, Missouri, strikes a racial nerve in the U.S., but Fox News manages to remain colorblind.
Olgy Gary's insight:

"Do you not understand that life in this country is inherently different for white people than black people?...This isn't all about just one man killed in one town. It's about how people of color, no matter their socio-economic standing, face obstacles in this country with surprising grace. Race is there. It is a constant. You're tired of hearing about it? Imagine how f***g exhausting is living it" --Jon Stewart

ISIS is forcing a 'moment of truth' | General Wesley Clark

ISIS is forcing a 'moment of truth' | General Wesley Clark | Current Events, Political & This & That | Scoop.it
Wesley Clark says the U.S. can offer support to its Islamic friends in the region most threatened by ISIS, but it can't fight their war
Olgy Gary's insight:

"The U.S. has learned the hard way that Western armies inflame extremists and serve as recruiting magnets for terrorists. Instead, other nations, and particularly Saudi Arabia and other Sunni states, must put their soldiers forward, and bear the brunt of the fighting. The U.S. can use diplomacy and economic assistance, and it can strike using airpower, or special forces, to reinforce the efforts of our allies, but we cannot fight a religious war as proxies for our Islamic friends in the region." --Gen. Wesley Clark

What was THAT? A guide to the military gear being used against civilians in Ferguson

What was THAT? A guide to the military gear being used against civilians in Ferguson | Current Events, Political & This & That | Scoop.it
Armored vehicles, tear gas, full combat gear, rifles — the military equipment being used in the streets of an American suburb?
Olgy Gary's insight:

This can't be true... and yet it is. LRADS are being used on the protesters in Ferguson. LRADS are "Long Range Acoustic Device", "a sound cannon "powerful enough to cause severe physical pain...and cause permanent hearing loss"...and that's not all... MRAPs, armored vehicles meant to be used in war zones (think Iraq here) are also on the streets of Ferguson. Tear gas is banned in military combat internationally...but is being used in Ferguson...  :-(

The Muslims who are condemning ISIS

The Muslims who are condemning ISIS | Current Events, Political & This & That | Scoop.it

"Faced with the unrelenting reports about the sufferings of Christians and other minorities in Iraq and Syria, even Christians who are friendly toward Muslims can be perplexed and ask, “Why aren’t Muslims speaking out against these atrocities?” The answer is: Muslims have been speaking out in the strongest terms, condemning the crimes against humanity committed by ISIS (or, as it is increasingly called, IS) and others in the name of Islam...So, why do we not hear more of this?..."
