This is how many times British cops fired guns all of last year: 3 | Political Consulting . . . all things political | Scoop.it
As the debate over gun control — and, now, the use of force by police — rages in the US and elsewhere, Britain offers a stark contrast. Police there rarely carry guns, fire them or kill anyone. Meanwhile, Beijing is getting machines that inspire people to both recycle and ride public transit. And Ebola is killing Liberians who don't even have the disease, in today's Global Scan.

Andrew C. McCarthy: Politics as Combat Where Anything Goes

Andrew C. McCarthy: Politics as Combat Where Anything Goes | Political Consulting . . . all things political | Scoop.it

It has come to this after six years of Barack Obama’s Chicago-style community-organizer governance: The hard Left no longer believes it necessary to pretend that the rule of law matters. It is politics as combat. The devolution can be measured from the trumped-up indictment of Tom DeLay to the trumped-up indictment of Rick Perry.

Back in 2005, the idea of exploiting prosecutorial power to criminalize one’s political opposition was still sufficiently noxious that Democrat apparatchiks in Austin understood the need for camouflage. Tom DeLay of Texas was among the GOP’s most effective leaders and fundraisers, having risen to congressional leadership not long after he helped Newt Gingrich lead the 1994 GOP takeover of the House. Democrats decided he had to be sidelined. They also knew they had the raw power to make it happen: a political operative ensconced as the chief prosecutor in a reliably Democratic county. In politics as combat, raw power is all you need — just cause has nothing .....

Federal judge tells IRS: Come clean on targeting Tea Party and conservative groups, again

Federal judge tells IRS: Come clean on targeting Tea Party and conservative groups, again | Political Consulting . . . all things political | Scoop.it

IRS officials should have known better than to trifle with U.S. District Judge Emmett Sullivan. Thanks to his ruling last week, Americans may soon learn much more on why a key IRS employee's emails remain beyond the reach of Congress. After IRS employees were caught in 2013 systematically delaying and harassing Tea Party and conservative groups seeking non-profit status, Lois Lerner, former head of the agency's tax-exempt organizations division, pleaded the Fifth before Congress....

Who would have thought that an indictment could end up helping Rick Perry? | Political Consulting . . . all things political | Scoop.it

Republicans-- and several possible 2016 foes -- are rallying behind Gov. Rick Perry (R-Texas) after his indictment Friday on charges of coercion of a public official and abuse of official capacity.

While the charges have provided fodder for Democratic attacks, the indictment could actually give the Texas governor an unintentional boost within the GOP field..

Ken Feltman's insight:

He's always had the hat. Maybe this will provide a few cattle.
