Just as in every other purchase made for police equipment, someone benefits. What we need to be concerned with regarding all military and police contracts is; are the mandatory minimum safety requirements met, is the equipment necessary, and does it benefit the officer and public? I completely believe mandatory body cams is an excellent idea, accountability should NEVER be a problem for those who are doing the right thing.

Well, as you can see in the video, the headline isn't as truthful as it could be.  The victim has a gun, which the officer retrieves, but then the known felon keeps reaching out of sight in the car.  When he exits the car (not shown), he's shot by both officers...

Heather Wiinikka's comment, January 26, 2015 2:15 AM
I think that is what is today's problem with the police they do not get all facts and evidence before they start accusing and the interrogation is and can be very scary and people are afraid if they do not give the answer the officer is looking for they will get into more trouble.

Laura Lee Smith's comment, January 30, 2015 11:47 PM
I am a firm believer in police and their authority, I think on the whole police forces do more good than harm. However since there is no "on site" oversight I think mandatory body cams are an excellent idea. I also agree that most police departments (like Akron, Ohio) do not need military style tanks, grenade launchers, and SWAT teams, excess leads to excess in my mind and only increases the possibility of escalation of a situation.
