The main stumbling block was a House-passed provision to end the NSA’s bulk collection of domestic phone records. Instead, the records would remain with telephone companies subject to a case-by-case review.

Bandidos leader says there is no order to kill police | Police Problems and Policy | Scoop.it
But in his role as a National Officer of the Bandidos, Graves strongly denies claims by police that biker gangs involved have been ordered to “kill anyone in uniform.”

“How long do you think the Bandidos motorcycle organization would last if we went out shooting at cops?” he questioned. “President Obama himself would send out the Air Force, the Army, the Marine Corp and everybody and take us out. There’s no way. We respect the police for doing their job.”

The Underlying Psychology of Office Politics

The Underlying Psychology of Office Politics | Police Problems and Policy | Scoop.it
Conversely, in less toxic companies, leaders manage the tensions within groups to enhance team performance and, in turn, organizational effectiveness. To do this, the best managers recognize the psychological underpinnings of office politics and do two things in response: they manage the way they themselves behave, and they are careful about how they motivate others. People who are perceived as apolitical display high levels of congruence between what they say and what they do, and they are also good at rewarding others for what they were required to do, while holding them accountable for what they fail to deliver.

Attack continues. No word from attacker. Site is open, but occasionally tor crashes and has to be restarted.
Rob Duke's insight:

Fraud and cyber attacks plagued Silk Road.  Dread Pirate Roberts finds that his utopia without government ends up needing government, including a type of policing that has no oversight.  He ends up using Hells Angels assassins to kill employees turned informants, scammers, and blackmailers (6 hits are known to have been ordered).

Yes, the system's screwed up, but like Churchill said about democracy: "it's the worst, except for all the rest".

DEA Agent Charged With Acting as a Paid Mole for Silk Road | WIRED

DEA Agent Charged With Acting as a Paid Mole for Silk Road | WIRED | Police Problems and Policy | Scoop.it
DEA special agent Carl Force and Secret Service special agent Shaun Bridges were arrested Monday and charged with wire fraud and money laundering. Bridges is accused of placing $800,000 of Silk Road bitcoins he obtained in a personal account on the Mt. Gox bitcoin exchange. But Bridges’ charges pale in comparison with the accusations against the DEA’s Force, who is additionally charged with theft of government property and conflict of interest in his investigation of the Silk Road. Force allegedly took hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of bitcoin payments from the Silk Road as part of his undercover investigation and transferred them to a personal account rather than confiscate them as government property. He’s also accused of secretly working for the bitcoin exchange firm CoinMKT, using his DEA powers to seize a customer’s funds from the exchange, and later using a subpoena to the payment firm Venmo to try to unlock his frozen funds there.
Rob Duke's insight:

Two of the main investigators charged with corruption.

WHAT MAKES IF DIFFERENT THAN OTHER CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROGRAMS?
-          How the degree was created:
o   Over 30 interviews with law enforcement and public safety experts.
o   It was clear that current criminal justice programs are not providing the skills needed for modern police officers in today’s times.
o   This program provides tangible and immediately applicable skills such as communications, leadership, management, and conflict resolution.
o   Comes at an important time for law enforcement and provides a solution to avert public distrust and negative community relations.
-          Conflict Resolution and Decision Making and Communication for Law Enforcement Leaders courses provide the skills to avert negative actions involving the community.
o   Through conflict resolution, law enforcement professionals learn to
de-escalate situations.
o   With effective communication, leaders can have an open dialogue with communities and work with them rather than against them.
