Ruined Polaroids photographs and text by I have been, for most of my career, a photojournalist. In this context, I have been interested in interpreting through photography, stories and narratives that I encounter in the world. Here the camera is the tool with which I focus outwards. That said, I find myself in the unusual position of perusing a photographic endeavor whose only narrative is the internal processes of photography itself. These pictures are taken with a camera that is, by most definitions, broken: an old Polaroid SX-70 camera rescued from a yard sale. I've always loved this camera. It is an ingeniously conceived, complicated bundle of gears and switches with hundreds of moving parts packed in tight like a chrome and leather pistol.

Onlosmakelijk is ze verbonden met A Polaroid Story, een blogproject waarbij ze bekende muziekartiesten op Polaroid foto vastlegt. Voor haar job is ze continu onderweg, want wat wil je met Oostende als uitvalsbasis? “Oostende is een stad met ballen aan haar lijf, het is een beetje rock ‘n roll en heeft een rauwe kant die ik kan appreciëren. Ik voel me hier echt thuis.” Ouni is half Tunesisch en haar naam betekent zoveel als ‘degene die helpt’.

Last month, some left-overs from a shoot that Nobuyoshi Araki and Lady Gaga did for Vogue Nippon in 2009 popped up on the interweb. The polaroids show the famous bondage technique kinbaku, which is featured regularly in Araki’s photos.
