Mark Lipparelli, the chairman of Nevada’s three-member Gaming Control Board, will step down from his position at the end of the month, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Tuesday.

Ten hopes for the Poker Hall of Fame | ESPN Poker

Ten hopes for the Poker Hall of Fame | ESPN Poker | Hit by the deck | Scoop.it

It's oft been repeated that winning a WSOP bracelet is the greatest achievement a poker player can accomplish, but the reality is that in some contexts, that bauble is a mere stepping stone to something greater.

On any given day, anyone can win a bracelet, but time is the true test in poker. Skill in this game is an argument of decades, not individual tournaments, which is why, for all the luster the bracelet does bring, there is indeed something more. Namely, the Poker Hall of Fame.

For the centuries that people have been coming to the felt, only 42 have been enshrined. Last year, it was Barry Greenstein and Linda Johnson. The year before, Erik Seidel and Dan Harrington. Doyle Brunson, Johnny Moss, Stu Ungar, Phil Hellmuth … these are the names with which inductee monikers will fraternize. In rarity, membership only ranks behind being the world champion amongst the game's honors and it takes a whole lot more to attain than a week and a half of beneficial coin flips.

Full Tilt Poker To Begin Player Identity Verification | Card Player | Hit by the deck | Scoop.it

On Thursday, more than a year after Full Tilt Poker slammed its doors shut with hundreds of millions of player money locked up in cyberspace, the company, now owned by former rival PokerStars, has begun the process of verifying player accounts.

Card Player received a copy of the email sent out to some of the site’s registered players living in non-American markets, requesting documents in order to resume play when the site relaunches in early November.

Full Tilt says that it needs to verify identities “in the interest of account security and in accordance with the anticipated Isle of Man regulatory requirements.

WSOP Finalist 'Lucky To Be Alive' After Drug Downswings | Card Player | Hit by the deck | Scoop.it

In one way, 24-year-old Greg Merson is the most experienced player to ever make the World Series of Poker main event final table in its more than 40-year history.

The Maryland native, who has made a living from online cash games, said he’s played about seven million hands on the virtual felt. Has Merson played more than any other finalist?

When asked about it, Merson said: “I’ve never really thought about it, but I’d certainly think that it’s not even close. I’ve been playing 20-24 tables at time, putting in 1,500-2,000 hands an hour, for the past four or five years. There aren’t many people who do that.”

Players at the Partouche Poker Tour can feel vindicated today after a grassroots campaign, quickly adopted by the poker media, resulted in its parent company reinstating the original main event prize pool guarantee of €5 million.

Honoring a Dog's Lifetime of Love | Las Vegas Poker Source

Honoring a Dog's Lifetime of Love | Las Vegas Poker Source | Hit by the deck | Scoop.it

Often times in life, things happen that you can’t explain at the time. Then you get the chance to understand what it all means ten years down the road…..
In August 2002, I roamed the corridors at Capital Area Humane Society in Hilliard, Ohio. I had just gotten married and moved into our own place, and went looking for “my first dog.”
I found it strange, in this first shelter experience of mine, how there weren’t any puppies – all dogs there seemed to be older, bigger and/or stricken with a variety of “special needs.” I just assumed I’d go pick out some type of puppy and spent its whole life together.

Ali Eslami's Style Of Play At WPT Legends Irritates Allen Kessler | PokerNewsDaily

Ali Eslami's Style Of Play At WPT Legends Irritates Allen Kessler | PokerNewsDaily | Hit by the deck | Scoop.it
The recently completed stop on the World Poker Tour, the Legends of Poker at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles, CA, brought a great deal of excitement for poker fans. With several notable names at the final table, including Jeff Madsen, Greg Mueller and Ali Eslami, Josh Hale was able to outlast the field to take the title. But it is the actions of Eslami earlier in the tournament that have ignited discussion across the poker landscape.

Allen Kessler – known for his rigid observance of poker’s rules – seems to have started the firestorm with a posting not only on the Two Plus Two forum but also his own Facebook page yesterday. In his Facebook posting, Kessler noted that on Day 1A, “The WPT Main Event at the Bike (condoned) Ali Eslami, Ray Henson and others at one table, who had agreed to blind raise UTG (under the gun, or first after the big blind) and UTG plus one in early levels. This creates huge stacks at one table and those players…thrive from this (to go deep in the tournament).”

Five Thoughts: Howard Lederer Speaks | Pokernews

Five Thoughts: Howard Lederer Speaks | Pokernews | Hit by the deck | Scoop.it
In the last 17 months, the Epic Poker League has come and gone, 128 World Series of Poker bracelets were won, the $1 Million Big One for One Drop was announced — and won by Antonio Esfandiari — and PokerStars paid all of its United States customers and purchased Full Tilt Poker.
However, in the last 17 months, we haven’t heard a peep out of Ray Bitar, Chris Ferguson, Rafe Furst, or Howard Lederer (OK maybe we’ve heard a peep from Lederer) — until now.
On Saturday Sept. 8, 2012, PokerNews’ Matthew Parvis sat down with Lederer for an exclusive interview. The interview lasted seven hours and is being released in edited segments this week. The first two parts of The Lederer Files went live on Tuesday, and having watched Part 1, I can safely say you’re not going to want to miss it.

American Online Poker Future is Bleak But Does Have Outs | Poker Junkie Blog | Hit by the deck | Scoop.it
The release of the Republican party's platform doesn't bode well for legalized online poker should Mitt Romney be elected President in November.

Basically, the Republican party is calling for a ban on all forms of internet gambling and a reversal of the December decision declaring the Wire Act only applies to sports betting.

Poker Junkie blogger Compncards tells us what this could mean for online poker in the US and what outs, if any, are left for legalized online poker.

The debacle at the French Partouche Poker Tour Main Event claimed another victim with the players of that event collectively being the first, as Jean-Jacques Ichai resigned. Ichai was the Poker Marketing Director of Groupe Partouche.

The resignation comes in the wake of arguments about the existence of a €5m guarantee for tournament.

Company President Patrick Partouche completely denied the existence of a guarantee and was polemical in denouncing the players who insisted that it existed. In an emotional speech he has cancelled the whole poker tour.
