2012 WSOP Begins in Grand Style

2012 WSOP Begins in Grand Style | This Week in Gambling - Poker News | Scoop.it

The motto, effectively parroted the past few years on the World Series of Poker Circuit, encouraged poker players to compete in various events around the country, which are spread out over the nine months when the WSOP “big one” is dormant. The National Circuit is potential stair ladder to greater success for many poker players, who may not quite have the bankrolls or skills necessary to come and play with the best at the world, at the WSOP.

Nick Jivkov, a 34-year old semi-pro poker player and business owner from Des Plaines, IL took the slogan literally. He cashed ten times in various WSOP Circuit events around the country during the last few years, ultimately winning a gold ring in 2010 at the IP in Biloxi. Until this year. Jivkov had yet to cash in any WSOP event in Las Vegas.

Facebook snags a 30-percent cut from Zynga, which represents 12 percent of the site’s revenue. Vegas Casinos Partner Up With Online Poker Rooms With Questionable Pasts | This Week in Gambling - Poker News | Scoop.it
To prime itself for the U.S. debut of legal online poker, MGM Resorts International, owner of such Las Vegas Strip monuments as the MGM Grand, the Bellagio and the Mirage, wanted a partner that knew the ropes.

So last October it hooked up with Bwin.Party Digital Entertainment Plc, a London-listed, Gibraltar-based specialist that rakes in more from Web betting than any other publicly traded company. MGM Resorts took 25 percent of a new venture 65 percent owned by Bwin.Party, with smaller Las Vegas casino operator Boyd Gaming getting the remaining 10 percent.

FTP has not paid players for more than a year, though it was announced this week that PokerStars was entering into a deal to purchase Tilt and pay back all affected players.

Legal Online Poker Accepting Maryland Players

Legal Online Poker Accepting Maryland Players | This Week in Gambling - Poker News | Scoop.it
Maryland is one of the top 50 states that really does not like gambling, or should we say the state politicians don’t.

It is in fact one of the more popular poker playing states despite a small state of only about 3 million people. Below we discuss Maryland poker sites and the situation with the State.

1. Betonline.ag – This poker site is the only poker site accepting all 50 States, and has a solid reputation for protecting their US players.

2. Cakepoker.eu – While they are the only 1 of 2 sites to accept Maryland, I’m not a fan of the site. They have gone downhill after being acquired/partnered with their affiliates, and deposits/withdraws are really slow.

Two Plus Two Poker Posting Forum Back Online Following Hack

Two Plus Two Poker Posting Forum Back Online Following Hack | This Week in Gambling - Poker News | Scoop.it
The popular Two Plus Two posting forum returned this weekend after a hacker managed to encrypt user passwords last month.

The world’s largest poker message board has been down for nearly three weeks. One of the issues encountered by long time members of the site is an inability to gain access using prior posting handles.

The question:

A few of my friends (GTBMuckface and BitchiBee specifically), and I'm sure MANY others, don't know or don't have the email address that they signed up with. I'm making this thread in an attempt to alleviate the millions of threads, even though they'll probably still pop up. Is there anything they can do, or are they SOL?

Five Thoughts: Saying Goodbye to a Legend

Five Thoughts: Saying Goodbye to a Legend | This Week in Gambling - Poker News | Scoop.it
This week's Five Thoughts looks at Amarillo Slim, TwoPlusTwo, the WSOP APAC and more.

In 1972, well before the Moneymaker Effect, the World Series of Poker was still in its infancy. Seven rounders played the $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em World Championship, including Roger Van Ausdall, Johnny Moss, Jack Straus, Crandell Addington, Doyle Brunson, Puggy Pearson, and, the eventual winner, Amarillo Slim. After winning, Slim became the first poker celebrity, making appearances on The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson, Good Morning America, and several game shows.

In 1973, the WSOP expanded from two events to eight, and the Championship Event nearly doubled in size, attracting 13 entrants. CBS Sports broadcasted the WSOP for the first time that year, exposing poker to a national audience. Slim’s effect on the game may not be as celebrated as Chris Moneymaker’s — nor is it as widely known — but it should be. His good humor and kind smile showed that poker isn’t just a game for hustlers or degenerate gamblers, and his frequent appearances with Carson brought the game of poker into millions of American homes. Slim’s impact cannot be ignored, nor should it be forgotten.
