Cliff Ravenscraft is known as the Podcast Answer man. I approached Cliff this week to come on the show after voicing my opinion about “chit chit” in a previous episode (where I answered a listener question). I’ve known Cliff for years, and I thought it was stupid to talk about his show (not the person) without actually stating his name. As I said last week, I’m not judging Cliff. We do have a difference of opinions on personal stories in podcasts, so I asked him to come on and share his insights. I want to see if there is anything I can learn. So I ask him why he would share personal stories in a show that many might expect to be all about podcasting. The beauty of podcasting is you can do you show however you want.
Cliff Ravenscraft, often referred to as Uncle Cliff, is one of the most prolific podcasters I know. He has several shows and has dedicated most of his time and life to the craft.

Learn about our new navigation for playlists, account switching, and Creator Studio.
I need to know about these changes but in order to keep myself sane I bookmarked my video manager. With this change YouTube is focusing on the dashboard as the central navigation for all of your channel options. However, I find the dashboard useless so I avoid it as much as possible.

I like to say there are two ways to explain VBR vs CBR. There is the non-tech way to explain it and that is simply:
VBR = Bad, CBR = Good
What we recommend at Libsyn is:
64 kbps - bit rate
44.1 khz - sample rate
mono or joint stereo.
Personally - I go with 96 kbps on the bit rate and mono.

Blubrry Podcast Hosting Service enhancement allows podcasters to go 25 percent over their storage limit
Today we have introduced a new feature to our podcast media hosting. We have found that some of our podcast hosting customers bump against their monthly storage limit on the hosting plan they have paid for time to time most only needing a little extra storage to carry them into the next month and not force them to upgrade.
Blubrry is the number 2 podcast hosting service and it looks like they are working very hard at becoming number 1.

Thanks for sharing the test. I would love to see how the mics work on Android. Do you know what recording software will work best with the mic on my Samsung Galaxy S4?

"Generally good post! I have some disagreements over the methodology of examining what other podcasters do and cite that as steps for success.
The Snowball is actually a generally poor choice for starting out. It locks you into a USB workflow and you have to throw away the mic when you get professional gear. It also gives inferior audio quality to better mics in the same price range—like the Audio Technica ATR2100-USB or AT2005USB.
I was a little disappointed to see none of the podcasting experts cited or recommended—Dave Jackson, Ray Ortega, Cliff Ravenscraft, or myself (Daniel J. Lewis).
Transcripts aren't the right way to go. Humans (and search engines) want quality content and a transcript is usually not quality content because it wastes so much time with the dialog. The best kinds of show notes for humans and SEO are concise and written like a blog post. Humans love it, Google loves it, and you make your content far more accessible to readers."
"I agree with all your points Daniel!
Kevan nice to see you talking about podcasting however you really can't have a credible discussion about starting a podcast without referencing the outstanding resources provided by Dave, Ray, Cliff or Daniel (IMO)."

The most straightforward route to recording your podcast is getting a microphone and recording your show to a sound recorder. Most laptops have built-in microphones at this point, so if you're strapped for cash, you could use that particular mic. However they usually don't isolate sounds very well and will likely pick up room noise as well as any typing or clicking you may do on your computer. Sometimes, they even pick up fan noise....
