7 Superfoods to Help You Live Longer (w / Infographic) | Plantsheal | Scoop.it

"Superfoods are aptly named. Each of them is high in the areas the body needs most: vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, protein, fiber and antioxidants. A balanced diet of these components can promote weight loss, prime the body for muscle gain, add energy stores, and provide mental clarity and acuity.

When consumed properly, these superfoods, such as chocolate (yes, chocolate), berries, green tea, turmeric, pistachios and garlic can even ward off cancer and help to fight it if it takes hold..."

Secrets of Solomon's Sea

Secrets of Solomon's Sea | Plantsheal | Scoop.it

The first secret you can discover for yourselves. If you check around your local health food stores and apothecaries, odds are you won’t find it. That was my experience traveling to several cities in Arkansas looking for Solomon’s Seal to help heal my spinal injury.  Since I could barely walk, locating it in the woods was out of the question. Please share your own search results with us in the comment’s section.

When I lived on Hurricane Creek I kept a patch just outside the door for emergencies, like those that cripple us. So why is it so hard to find commercially (other than online)? Folks don’t know about it, and are not asking for it!

Elle D'Coda's insight:

Read on to learn how this plant can meet so many needs, as a food and medicine and an ideal garden plant for shady areas.

Sage improves memory and attention

Sage improves memory and attention | Plantsheal | Scoop.it

Previous research has shown evidence for sage's ability to enhance mood, reduce anxiety, and improve performance in healthy young volunteers (lemon balm, too), and the in-vitro research on the herb's ability to exert anti-cholinesterase activity(prolonging the activity of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine) has made it a target for research in aging and dementia. Acetylcholine is involved in transmitting signal in an area of the brain called the basal forebrain (amongst others), and there is evidence that this region of the central nervous system degrades as we age, leading to memory loss and cognitive impairment (as in Alzheimer's, for instance). Acetylcholine also provides the connection between the nervous system and musculature, and deficiencies are associated with conditions such as myasthenia gravis.

Elle D'Coda's insight:

An excellent article about an herb we may sometimes overlook.

These Vegetables Can Protect You From Fukushima Radiation #radiation #fukushima | Plantsheal | Scoop.it

Georgetown University Medical Center researchers say a compound derived from cruciferous vegetable such as cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli protected rats and mice from lethal doses of radiation.

Their study, published today in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) suggests the compound, already shown to be safe for humans, may protect normal tissues during radiation therapy for cancer treatment and prevent or mitigate sickness caused by radiation exposure.

Elle D'Coda's insight:

Known for protecting against cancer, 3,3'-diindolymethane is now shown to protect from heavy radiation! With Fukushima continuing to release massive amounts of radiation into our environment, folks had better eat these veggies daily.

Logging On to Nature's Broadband

Logging On to Nature's Broadband | Plantsheal | Scoop.it

As our technology advances, we begin to recognize that Nature has already done it…and so much better.  Indeed, Nature is the model of high tech. Take, for example, the quantum computer. It’s the cutting edge…an edge that Nature stepped over billions of years ago. And broadband internet? The Big Bang is better thought of as the Presence booting up to program reality…yet another universe. With life code coursing through a geometry of light and sound, weaving DNA into braided fiber optics. Biophotons emitted from cells receiving and transmitting information through time and space.  A grammar was born. The stuff of life speaks.
