Breast Cancer, Cholesterol, and Reductionism in Breast Cancer, News, Oncology - Center for Nutrition Studies

Breast Cancer, Cholesterol, and Reductionism in Breast Cancer, News, Oncology - Center for Nutrition Studies | Plant Eater - Healthy Mind, Healthy Body, Healthy People, Healthy Earth | Scoop.it
According to a journalist for the prestigious journal Science (November 29, 2013), “Cholesterol….when metabolized by the body…turns into a potent estrogen-like molecule that spurs the growth of breast cancer in mice, and perhaps in people.
Vuk Sekicki's insight:

"This is an example of how medical research routinely works, focusing on one event at a time, buried within an immensely complex system. Developing single potentially dangerous, tissue-targeted drugs to block single pathways routinely sets aside control of the real culprit, diet. This strategy is so feeble, so ill-advised and so focused on creating wealth for the few over health for the many! Shameful!"

Environmental Sciences Europe | Full text | Republished study: long-term toxicity of a Roundup herbicide and a Roundup-tolerant genetically modified maize

The health effects of a Roundup-tolerant NK603 genetically modified (GM) maize
(from 11% in the diet), cultivated with or without Roundup application and Roundup
alone (from 0.1 ppb of the full pesticide containing glyphosate and adjuvants) in
drinking water, were evaluated for 2 years in rats. This study constitutes a
follow-up investigation of a 90-day feeding study conducted by Monsanto in order
to obtain commercial release of this GMO, employing the same rat strain and
analyzing biochemical parameters on the same number of animals per group as our
investigation. Our research represents the first chronic study on these
substances, in which all observations including tumors are reported
chronologically. Thus, it was not designed as a carcinogenicity study. We report
the major findings with 34 organs observed and 56 parameters analyzed at 11 time
points for most organs.

EATING WELL

EATING WELL | Plant Eater - Healthy Mind, Healthy Body, Healthy People, Healthy Earth | Scoop.it
"CAN the cookware I use be jeopardizing my health and the health of my family?" This question, or some variation of it, comes up frequently, particularly at this time of year when many people are choosing cookware for entertaining or for gifts. Most often the material in question is aluminum, which is used in 52 percent of all cookware, but nonstick pans, copperware and ceramics also worry some cooks. Concern over the safety of aluminum cookware developed when autopsy reports showed unusually high levels of the metal in the brain tissue of people with Alzheimer's disease. But while concern over the safety of certain types of cookware is justified, most experts say the call to throw out aluminum pots and pans is unwarranted.
Vuk Sekicki's insight:

So you found a perfect diet, well that is not enough, you have to cook it in a healthy cookware. It seems that certified lead free US ceramics or cast iron is the best... read more.

Vuk Sekicki's insight:

"I actually endorse one of the prevailing theories that goes back to the so-called hygiene hypothesis that because of the cleanliness of the society in which we live, that between birth and the first 18 months or so of life, our babies are not exposed to the same amount of antigenic load that mother nature expected, so not enough dirt, in other words. Everything is kept clean and has to be sterilized. We make sure our babies are not in touch with any dirt or put something dirty in their mouth."
