Recently people talk more about the beneficial effects of the healing plants, and some of them are even called natural antibiotics.

My Family and I have discovered many benefits of plants and natural remedies.  It pays to be informed and educate yourself before the need arises.  I also enjoy sharing what I learn with my friends and clients so they can live a healthier and more vibrant life.

Did you know that Mother nature's proprietary medicinal herbs and other foods were the original natural healing foods for your body? Pharmaceutical antibiotics are the exact opposite and do not heal your body. They may help in some instances, but you still need to take healing foods and herbs to counter the damage they cause to the bacteria that inhabit your gut.

Health tips:  Oregano oil has proven antibacterial properties, is useful for respiratory infections. Drink a glass of pure or filtered water with a few drops of this oil or gargle in 1 ounce of water helps relieve sore throat, mouth sores, alleviates congestion, and fights sinus infections.

Always dilute this oil before use as it is extremely strong. If you have a severe infection, use 4-6 drops for 7 to 10 days, according to clinical herbalist, Michelle Lynde. Several studies showed that it is effective against multiple antibiotic resistant bacteria.

Clove oil has antimicrobial properties, making it a highly effective gargle to sooth throat pain and irritation. the oil has a cooling effect and anti-inflammatory properties and can be used as an expectorant for respiratory issues such as colds, cough, sinusitis, , asthma, and bronchitis. Clove is super for the giving your immune system a boost.

The Department of Infectious Diseases of the University of Heidelberg also studied antiviral activity of essential oils, and clove oil was on the list together with oregano and eucalyptus. Eucalyptus oil has a long list of medicinal properties. It is anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antibacterial, anti-viral, decongestant, expectorant, immune-stimulant, and is considered a natural "antibiotic".

It promotes easy breathing and is effective for any respiratory condition, including colds, flu, sinus, asthma, throat infections, and cough. For respiratory infections use the oil in a vaporizer or humidifier. Eucalyptus oil also helps against TB and MRSA, an infection that is often antibiotic resistant.

Study: Pilates Helps Relieve Neck Pain

Study: Pilates Helps Relieve Neck Pain | pilates | Scoop.it
People with a history of neck pain found significant relief after a six-week Pilates program, according to a small study published in the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies. Perhaps most significantly, the participants reported less pain six weeks after their last official Pilates session, suggesting that the exercise program had induced subtle changes in movement patterns that had long-lasting benefits.
Betsy Blandford Walker's insight:

This article focuses on the neck which I can attest to personally as a practitioner and a teacher of the Pilates Method.  I know from my experience that the the results would be similar if not better for people suffering with low back pain as well. The strength and mobility that Pilates offers the spine and body is the key to maintaining a healthy spine. #corealignpilates #pilates #back #neck #pain #bwalkerpilates

Betsy Blandford Walker's insight:

This is a great article by an MD.  I have done my best to switch to organic and non-GMO food but it is difficult because you never know what might be hidden in the ingredients of many packaged or processed foods or what we eat in restaurant food.  Today, I checked in with FourSquare at Chipotle posing the question, "Does Chipotle use Non-Gmo ingredients?" I looked on their website but did not see anything referencing Non-GMO. It is up to us consumers to put the pressure on to ensure our health and eliminate GMO foods and their dangers from our lives. Check out any of these books to learn more. http://amzn.to/1d3BCWb

Fat in organs and blood may increase risk of osteoporosis

Fat in organs and blood may increase risk of osteoporosis | pilates | Scoop.it
A new study has found that obese people with higher levels of fat in their liver, muscle tissue and blood also have higher amounts of fat in their bone marrow, putting them at risk for osteoporosis.
Betsy Blandford Walker's insight:

Here is another reason to get out and do the  Colorado Get Movin' Challenge http://getmovinchallenge.org/. I recently took my kids to Water World where there is plenty of good people watching but I found myself contemplating the sad future for the many heavy and obese people I saw-children too!  We know that overweight people do not exercise enough and thus they do not stimulate their bones to replace bone as fast as it is absorbed.  This article states that Higher Levels of Bone Marrow fat makes bones weak and puts overweight people at a higher risk for fracture.  Once a person has a fracture they are more likely to enter a nursing home and have more fractures.  Is this what we want Colorado?  Encourage the people you know to join in The Colorado Get Movin's Challenge, get fit and build stronger bones.  The Challenge Starts August 1st!

5 Strength Training Exercises for Runners Diets In Review (blog) Cross training day is the time to do something other than your sport to help prevent injury from repetitive stress and work on activities that help you do what you do better.
Betsy Blandford Walker's insight:
Most these exercises come from Pilates- a great cross training method for runners. Additionally when runners come to me with soreness or hip pains, I like to work hip mobility exercises. Try lying down with a theraband wrapped over the foot. Holding both ends, circle the leg without moving the pelvis. You can get some great stretches with the band too! Http://corealignpilates.com

Betsy Blandford Walker's insight:

Agreed, basketball, like other rotational sports: hockey, football, tennis, golf, soccer, lacrosse, and skiing need specific exercises for the demands of the sport's required movements .  Pilates and Corealign are two lesser known training methods to fine tune an athlete's body to take advantage of the the required muscle groups in their full range of motion, both concentricly and eccentricly.

Betsy Blandford Walker's insight:

Are you trying to figure out how to begin Pilates.?  This is a good place to start.  Check out Pilates Method Alliance,  http://bit.ly/pmacert  an NCCA accredited certification, which is a 3rd party organization that certifies Pilates Instructors after they have gone through their chosen "comprehensive" training program. While not all competent teachers have  this certification, especially some of the second & third generation teachers who are considered "master teachers," it is a good place to start looking for a competent teacher, or at least, the right questions to ask.  Also note that Pilates training programs/schools offer their own certification but it is not the same as a 3rd party certification.

FDA Targets Essentials Oils: Sees EOs as Threat to New Ebola Drugs? | Health Impact News | pilates | Scoop.it

Betsy Blandford Walker's insight:

This is a must share to everyone in this country who cares about their health and their family's health.

It seems there is a dangerous trend with our government agencies, unelected bureaucrats, and certain elected politicians insidiously taking away our freedoms and rights by disregarding our US Constitution.  Just recently the FDA, and we have to assume, the pharmaceutical industry has begun their war on the essential oil industry.

It is clear to me and my contemporaries that our government and big business is very happy keeping its citizens unhealthy.  Health care would not be the issue if the FDA did its job by taking foods and drugs  off the market that have proven to be life threatening or to have dangerous side effects by unbiased tests  rather than sensor every piece of information companies or individuals convey.

How often are we prescribed drugs that cause other health conditions over time or even death?  Why have they allowed Genetically modified food to poison our food supply?

If you are like me and read all sorts of health and scientific, books and studies you become frightened to eat most of the stuff on the grocery shelves, including non organic meat and produce,  get vaccines, or take any medication.   I often find myself dreaming about moving away from civilization so I can grow my own food for my family,- something that  just isn't realistic today.

What is the answer?   How can we fight these overpowering forces?

I believe that every concerned consumer and entity in the natural food, health, supplement, and natural medicine community needs to come together as a community to voice out opinions and lobby our elected officials to do something about it.  We must  elect leaders based NOT on how they make us feel or how  they appear on the television programs.  Instead,  it is our responsibility to research what they have done or said in the past, who they really are and who or what they might be beholden to.  Considering only  balanced reporting is a must!

We are at a very pivotal time in history where we must turn the momentum of oppression and control back to freedom and personal responsibility. What are you prepared to do about it?

Help me to get the conversation going by harnessing the power of social media use  #STOPFDA.  Look for balanced reporting,  good studies,  publicize information the mainstream media purposely skips,  talk about the issues and the people who are working to do something about it.  Click here to join my mailing list, pass this on and help me promote #healthyAmerica.

A Painful D-ficiency | Natural Grocers

A Painful D-ficiency | Natural Grocers | pilates | Scoop.it

Could something as simple as vitamin D relieve your chronic pain?

In modern nutritional science if there was one nutrient that might fulfill the criteria of panacea, it would be vitamin D; and we continue to learn more and more about the far-reaching health effects of this hormone-type compound. Often, it is a deficiency of a nutrient like vitamin D that leads researchers to understand the profound way in which nutrients affect our bodies, and now, research is linking a deficiency of vitamin D with generalized symptoms of chronic pain, which affects nearly 50 percent of Americans [i] The good news? Supplementing with vitamin D is proving to reduce the pain.

Betsy Blandford Walker's insight:

As all my clients know, I am a big proponent of taking much more than the required dose of Vitamin D along with eating a calciium rich diet to prevent osteoprosis.

Through my own experience, I have determined that everybody is different in how we tollerate and absorb our vitamins and minerals.  I discovered that the vitamin D3 supplement I was taking for years, while it was of very high quality, it was not giving me the results I wanted in terms of boosting my immune system.  When I switched supplements my body was more receptive to one that I was tested for through bio-meridian testing.  After switching I have not been sick since.

Isn't it great to know that Vitamin D can Boost our immune systems, prevent osteoprosis and ward off chronic pain?

I would like people to know that pilates is about prevention.  The way we move our bodies, sit and stand often will cause problems for us as we age- athletes included!  For example,  we often see people (young-old) walking around slumped over- the precursor to osteoporosis, neck and shoulder problems.  Or they have poor leg alignment affecting feet, ankles, hips, back and ultimately neck as they age.  Want to stay out of the doctor's office, find a comprehensively trained and PMA certified pilates teacher!
