Many of you may not know much about our sister company, Posterservice.com. Posterservice actually started before Frame USA was around. We license and distribute posters to customers all around the country. We are also the exclusive US distributor for GB eye, a poster company in Great Britain. Anyone who wants a poster in the GB eye line in the United States can only order it through Posterservice. Along with GB eye, we create many in house posters and concepts as well. We work to find some of the best images around, and become the exclusive licensor of those images. Our Posterservice team just got back from the Camex Show in Dallas, Texas, March 9-11, 2014. CAMEX is the largest college bookstore trade show in the industry. Each year, Posterservice works hard to bring the best product forward to these shows. With our largest market being college bookstores through the United States, this is the perfect show for us. We mainly focus on selling two main products at this show: 1. Shrinkwra
Being primarily a wholesale framing business, we don t make it a point to emphasize custom framing quite as much as our great deals and high-quality product. However, we do have a custom framing department both for our Build A Frame feature and our retail store in Cincinnati, Ohio. While not our main focus, we still offer the best deals around with the best service on the market! (For instance, did you know we were recently nominated for Best Frame Shop in Cincinnati?) Today, we thought we d share four quick tips on how to not only get the most mileage out of your framing, but also how to best select the materials for your work. 1. If you re going to be matting an art piece or a print, there s really no reason to restrict yourself on mat size. Use as much or as little space as you need However, the mat should not be the same size as the moulding it s inside. Larger/smaller is fine, but not equal. 2. While we love showing off our frames, the primary purpose of a frame is to showcase
Shadow Box Frames and Fine Art Assemblage Recently, we ve seen a great shift between the realms of 2D and 3D art. Not quite paintings and not quite sculptures, these art pieces are more of an assemblage of 3D objects meant to be viewed on a 2D-plane. You may have even made these in school at some point. Today, we are talking about dioramas. Not your average middle school project While popular for school projects, this Alice in Wonderland piece is proof that dioramas are every bit as capable of being fine art.
Celebrating American Made Products for 30 years! Frame USA s business plan title for this year is Amp it Up! , a slogan that will remind us throughout the year to continue to raise the bar for companies that source labor, materials and manufacturing within the United States. We even made a video that supports why it s important to shop for items that are made in the USA. This can be anything from picture frames, shoes, clothing, toys and even software and phone apps. Spending local and shopping small is always the best option! Not sure where to buy items made in America? Googling American Made Products will turn up a great number of resources for you to find some great American businesses that produce the items that you use every day! So you want a wooden frame for your artwork If you have an abundance of artwork lying around, you might wonder what to do with it. Rather than leaving it collect dust, you can hang it on the wall without breaking the bank! In order to accomplish this goal you need to know the proper way to purchase wood frames that will help to preserve the longevity of your artwork as well as make it look beautiful while remaining affordable. Conservation of your Art Work Artwork can easily be damaged, which is why conservation should be your number one priority when it comes to choosing the right wooden picture frames. You need to take into consideration the elements that your artwork will be exposed to in order to ensure its protection. Think about the type of light, temperature ranges, dust and exposure to insects or pests that your pieces will be exposed to while hanging on the wall. This will help you to pick the appropriate frame, type of glass and mat that will protect your picture the best. A
Jennifer in this video will show you the differences in our Deluxe Poster Frames and exactly what makes them so special. Deluxe poster frames are available in large sizes (like our large picture frames) and also feature a wider profile than what you will find in our corrugated, hardboard or foamcore lines. You can also have a look at our Budget Saver line (somewhat identical in profile to our Black Wood series) for a thicker profile, or consider ordering a standard wood or metal frame in a poster-compatible size. We hope this video and description will help you create the best image possible for your art. See more of our videos on your YouTube channel! 97 year-old Nancy Cole of Spartanburg, Kansas recently opened up her first art show in Well, ever. In a story of true inspiration, Nancy began her pursuits in art at the age of 90 and never looked back. It tooks seven years of practice and creating piece after piece, but eventually she was ready for the big time. Her instructor, Bailie, saw something special in her work and stories, eventually calling up a local gallery for an official art show featuring Nancy s work. The resulting art show resulted in great responses from the community and beyond, selling two art pieces in the first 13 minutes of the show.

If you follow our Paper.li news feed, we try to share some great advice in the art and framing community throughout the week. You can find this online publication here. One article that stood out to use was and article called Framing Artwork , a robust and long-winded article on art becoming more than the act of creating art, but also involving labor and democracy, that art makes up more than creative and technical processes but includes labor as any other job does. We happen to agree. The author also cites examples from Warhol, who was the first artist to relate to society s conformity and democratic approach to art. To quote the author, Art is not simply the place where desires get expressed and monetized. It is also where desires get fulfilled and monetized. There will always be a remainder, and that remainder is the libidinal investment in art as a space different from other spaces, and in creativity as a more expansive ideal of production. The persistence of this remainder dema

Frame USA has been using a product called styrene—which is a plexiglass type material in our larger picture frames since we began operations over 30 years ago. For most of this time the styrene used in our picture frames has been purchased domestically from a large plastic manufacturer in the United States. In the 4th quarter of 2013, this plastic manufacturer, through its distributor, came to us and let us know that they were raising the price of our styrene product by 67% over the first six months of 2014. This huge price increase came despite almost no increase in raw materials prices or resin increases. According to the sales manager at this manufacturer, “we believe the styrene product was undervalued in the marketplace” and this lead to the incredibly large 67% increase that is taking place. “We want our customers to know that we are shocked at our vendor’s behavior which has lead to a major increases in our product prices effective today”, said Daniel P. Regenold, C
Cheap Picture Frames can Increase your Artwork s Value When it comes to framing your artwork, cost should not be the determining factor. You can use cheap wood frames to complete your work. What it comes down to is the method that is used in order to preserve the longevity and value of your pieces. Understanding how to choose the frame for your artwork will help you to get the most out of it, whether you plan to sell it or simply want to keep your own work in optimal condition. Acid Free Materials The use of acid free materials is crucial to the longevity of your artwork. This pertains to the materials used on the front and back of the work. If you do not use acid free materials, you put your work at risk for deteriorating or looking worn inside the wooden picture frames. You will likely start to see small brown spots that eventually spread over the entire piece of art. Even when you find products that are termed “acid-free” you should proceed with caution. The best mats to use ar
Laser engraved products are absolutely storming the market, anywhere from engraved jewlery to engraved hunting rifles. A big draw to this is personalization; being able to modify a product so that it reflects something with meaning to the consumer. It goes without saying, then, that laser engraving is something that must be done with the utmost care and skill to give the customer exactly what they want. In a recent post by DECOR magazine, Lisa Crabtree of Spring, Texas uses her laser engraving machine to corner the engraving market in the small town. She discusses all of the big project undertakings that come with engraving products. You can read more about it here! The big secret to engraving lies in the craftsmanship, technology and the technical skill of the engraver. One must know how to troubleshoot errors, utilize expert layout skills and have a broad understanding of the engraved material. It can be a very costly process if your engraver is not careful. Similarly, it s importan
A video from London Sessions Productions and Rita Konig presents The Decorations of Houses , A Guide to Picture Framing. We were thrilled to see such a well-done and honest video on this subject from the New York Times. In this video, interior designer Rita Konig explains the value and versatility of a picture frame (and of custom framing in general. Rita is known in framing for her rather unorthadox views on picture framing particularly when it comes to the art involved. Rita Konig demonstrates her current framing project. Her biggest design tip? Each frame does something different to the picture , she says. The art inside the frame, while obviously having an important place in the composition, is not necessarily the star of the finished product. Indeed, oftentimes the frame will accentuate the art in ways that significantly increase the value. Rita heads to the Lacy Gallery in London for some input and custom framing work. Lacy Gallery assists Rita with sizing and designing her pi
