Re: How to create a new database in jbase

Hi,
To my understanding jbase is a file based system, you dont create database
but you create accounts say MYSYSTEM.BP where your files and programs
reside.
Hope that helps
Regards

Missed opportunities by dismissing innocent newbie questions. That was my take on this thread anyway...

Dave, mvToolbox could do that. Eugene

RE: Jbase and Windows server 2012

Richard,
Well, I wouldn't think of attempting it. It is much better to put it on a platform like a Windows 2003 VM, where you know it is going to work without any problems.
jBASE 5 runs just fine on Windows 2012, as well as on Windows 8.
Tony Gravagno's insight:

Interesting exchanges - could be said for Any MV platform and the most recent OS's...

Also .Rn
to pull the nth command back into first (default) place. That's useful
if you've got the COMMAND.EDITOR switched on.
Tony Gravagno's insight:

General discussion on using the dot.stack in U2. All MV platforms have this  - but unfortunately they're all just a little different.

Remote execution of client code from the server

When creating browser applications for Pick applications, people frequently ask how they can execute some code on the PC/client with instructions from the server. We do this all the time with terminal emulators in our “thick client” user interfaces.
Tony Gravagno's insight:

This question comes up a few times per year in different forums...

D3 Windows or Linux? | Pick MultiValue | Scoop.it
I saw another question today about whether a VAR should recommend D3 Windows or D3 Linux. Knowing many sites that have moved from Windows to Linux, and those that have not, I thought I’d post my thoughts on it here for a more general audience.

RESTful web services in QM?

I have read the U2 has RESTful web services, any chance of QM implementing
them in the near future? Would allow Grails framework to work with QM
which could really make for a cool setup.
Tony Gravagno's insight:

You can do web services (REST and otherwise) with ALL MV environments - this is all about open standards. But people keep asking the MV DBMS providers for proprietary solutions. :(

Catching Exceptions

Is there a way to catch "any" exception that gets thrown and then process
it accordingly? Sort of a way to catch the exception regardless of what it
is and do something generic with it rather than the program just blow up.
Tony Gravagno's insight:

Exception handling is generally missing from MV, as are events and other modern features expected by today's developers. :(
