A recent study published in Spine indicates that physical therapy can be just as effective as neck surgery at improving function in people suffering from neck pain and radiculopathy (arm pain) from cervical disc disease.

Randy Bauer's curator insight, April 3, 2013 11:42 AM

The primary focus in Physical Therapy is helping the client that is experiencing neck pain to Self-Manage their symptoms. The Physical Therapist will often see the client 3 times per week to gain as much insight to treatment approach, and defining a strategy to manage this condition on a daily basis. This means that the client must understand and be able to implement self-management strategies at home and work to get an upper hand on the injury. Combining the efforts of the Physical Therapist and Client is the best non-operative approach to management of neck pain, or any other injury that One is attempting to overcome.
