Building a RESTful PHP Server: Output Handlers | LornaJane

Building a RESTful PHP Server: Output Handlers | LornaJane | PHP Web Development | Scoop.it

This is the third installment in my series about writing a RESTful web service in PHP (the previous entries are about understanding the request and routing it. It is probably the last one but there are a few other things I'd like to cover such as error handling, so I might keep adding to it, especially if I get any particular requests or interesting questions in the comments. So far we've covered parsing requests to determine exactly what the user is asking for, and also looked at routing to a controller to obtain the data or perform the action required. This post gives examples of how to return the data to the client in a good way.

Joomla 3.0 Admin Concept

Joomla 3.0 Admin Concept | PHP Web Development | Scoop.it
Now that Joomla 2.5 is out, 3.0 is on the horizon and approaching fast! Designers are now invited to create unique concepts to rethink the look and workflows of Joomla. These designs will be fueled by conversations in the JUX, so please submit your ideas where appropriate.

Here's my first take: a minimal design with healthy white space, less data at glance, grouped actions, and optimized layout. This design takes cues from the recent Google overhaul, which I love.

Disclaimer: this is in no way official, just a concept. Submit your own!

Enabling Search Engine Friendly (SEF) URLs on Apache - Joomla! Documentation

Enabling Search Engine Friendly (SEF) URLs on Apache - Joomla! Documentation | PHP Web Development | Scoop.it

Human readable or search engine friendly URLs are URLs that make sense to both humans and search engines because they explain the path to the particular page they point to. Since version 1.5, Joomla! is capable of creating and parsing URLs in any format, including human readable URL's. This does not depend on URL rewriting executed by the web server, so it works even if Joomla! runs a server other than Apache with the mod_rewrite module. The process of creating and processing human readable URLs is called routing. Routing uses aliases that can be defined by the user.

PHPDeveloper.org: Tutorial: An Introduction to OOP in PHP

Okay, show of hands out there - who else is tired of the boring old car analogies when it comes to talking about object-oriented programming in PHP? I have to admit; even I got a little sick of reading them after a bit. It seemed like there wasn't much originality behind them, and several of them just assumed that you understood what "$this->car_name" was.

So, here we go with something a little bit different - hopefully it'll turn out to be something useful for all of you developers out there trying to wade through the wide world of object-oriented programming with PHP.

Strategy for frontend templates

Strategy for frontend templates | PHP Web Development | Scoop.it
We should figure out a concrete strategy for the frontend templates. Right now there are two versions of Beez and Atomic.

Atomic is aimed at the simple users with a barebones template. It's extendable but that's not necessary.

I think we need a small business template in the core (Beez doesn't fit that description) since many small businesses use Joomla. What do you think?

Or should all templates be removed except one and make the others available for download or installation via the automatic installer?
