Des gens assez observateurs m'ont demandé, par mails, pourquoi j'avais supprimé mon article consacré à PR Smith. Je m'en serais volontiers expliqué avec elle mais elle a jugé opportun de me bloquer sur FB. Comme elle bloque tous les artistes qui lui réclament des comptes. Je consacre quelques lignes à m'expliquer. Tout simplement, j'aime promouvoir les artistes qui me plaisent, j'aime présenter et évoquer personnellement leur oeuvre et tenter de la faire découvrir à ceux qui visitent mes blogs. J'avais donc proposé un important article sur PR Smith. Dans l'immédiate foulée, j'ai été instruit, par des artistes ulcérés, de certaines inconcevables pratiques de PR Smith. Je ne me pose pas en législateur, en avocat ou en moraliste mais en artiste qui a le respect de son travail et de celui des autres. Or, la façon de procéder de PR Smith m'est apparue écoeurante, obscène, fondamentalement irrespectueuse du travail de ses pairs. Je vais apporter ici la preuve de la façon dont elle pille éhontément le travail des autres.

Supported by Nikon, a World Premiere show has recently opened at the Czech Photo Gallery : The Best Of Nude Photography. For first time, the exhibition will show together unique personalities of the world of nude photography - Taras Kuscynskyj, Jan Saudek, Pavel Brunclik, Robert Vano and Antonin Tesar. 65 photographs (with the exception of those from private collections) will be for sale. Presentations by the photographers will take place on the 9th of June 2013, at the closing of the exhibition. The Best of Nude Photography is the first in a series of exhibitions the gallery will devote to individual genres.

As a ten-year-old boy playing cowboys with friends at school in England, I was never allowed to be a cowboy; I could only be a Native American Indian. I was told: “Black boys were never cowboys” or “Have you ever seen a black cowboy?”

I had to admit that I had never seen a single black cowboy.

The only cowboys we ever saw were your white archetypal squared-jawed, American gun-slinging heroes. Think of our screen legends; The Lone Ranger, John Wayne, Gary Cooper, Roy Rogers, Clint Eastwood, right up to The Marlboro Man.

The list is endless, but, not one black cowboy amongst them.

These days the collection continues to grow; over 150 women (some with their partners) have participated, most in their own homes..

La revue 6 Mois a renoué avec la tradition du journalisme photographique. Elle raconte, en photos, des histoires de notre monde. Narrative, en prise avec l’actualité, loin des idées reçues. La galerie La Petite Poule Noire a accueilli, à plusieurs reprises depuis trois ans, des expositions de photojournalisme, parfois en lien direct avec l’actualité du monde (Révolution sur le printemps arabe) parfois de façon plus lointaine (Davide Monteleone sur la marques des conflits dans le Caucase).

Par leur qualité visuelle et leur recherche, esthétique autant que déontologique, sur la portée du témoignage et le sens de notre époque, ces photographies ont leur place sur les murs. La Galerie leur offre une autre vie, sur un tempo différent, appelant sur elles un regard plus calme et attentif à leur démarche formelle que celui, pressé, du lecteur qui tourne les pages des magazines. Leur force les arrache à l’actualité immédiate.

Carrées, en noir et blanc, cadrées avec un mélange de précision et de perturbation de l’espace, les images de Roger Ballen sont, à chaque fois, comme la cristallisation de petites histoires, de brèves aventures qui se résument en une pièce de théâtre en un seul acte d’image, mais aussi des accumulations de questions. Nous n’aurons d’autre réponse que le trouble, l’énigme, une étrangeté générale qui traverse la question de l’identité autant que celle de la forme et du sens du portrait. […] Dans “Outland” – qui signifie “en marge de la société” ou “aux limites de la psyché” – Ballen intègre la théâtralité de certaines situations de la vie quotidienne des personnes qu’il photographie. Celles-ci commencent à participer activement à la production des images en fictionnalisant leur propre représentation. Pour autant, ça n’en fait pas des acteurs, ni de simples modèles. Ballen créé une image hybride dans laquelle s’entremêlent portrait et tableau. Le rapport à la prise de vue qu’ont les personnes photographiées se révèle multiple et complexe, tout comme le sont les relations qui régissent la société contemporaine…

Miguel Ángel Sánchez traveled in 2012 with his studio to Ulu Pamir, Turkey, a far place in the middle of Turkish Kurdistan, hidden between mountains with very hard winters and connected by a tortuous path to Van Lake. 30 years ago, this land was the witness of the arrival of a group of unusual people with unusual features.

These people, originally from Kyrgyzstan, came walking from far away, from Pamir, with the promise of a better and safer life hosted by the Turkish government, avoiding the war with USSR.

30 years later, people from this place fight against the government´s abandonment and harassment of the PKK guerrilla warfare.

Miguel Ángel portrayed the inhabitants from this small village and their will to preserve their roots and traditions despite being far away from their original land.

Miguel Ángel Sánchez (Madrid 1977), Spanish photographer based in Cairo since 2009.

For years he combined his development as an artist with his work in a commercial photography studio, until, in 2009, he decided to completely turn over to his creative side and opened his own photography studio in Cairo (Egypt).

 

His studio in Cairo is the base where he works and prepares projects developed in Egypt for the last four years, but he is also a study itinerant photographer who takes his workspace to any corner of the world: Asia, Middle East or black Africa. The Gaddafi war in Libya, the Ulu Pamir besieged by the PKK in Turkish Kurdistan, the Gaza Strip after Israel bombing and Lebanon after Hariri are some of the ports reached by Studio Al Asbani.

 

Miguel Ángel Sánchez also combines his work as a studio photographer with photojournalist and cameraman in conflict zones where he covered the war in Libya, the Egyptian revolution and the Gaza Operation Pillar of defense, among others.

 

His work has been published by national media such as El País, and international as The New York Times, Le Monde, New Yorker, Photo Raw, La Lettre de la Photographie, etc.

On April 26, 1986, reactor number four at the Chernobyl nuclear power facility in what is now the Ukraine exploded. 

For years, the Soviet authorities withheld information on Chernobyl, both from its own people and from the rest of the world. 

While many cities, towns and villages were immediately evacuated in the aftermath of the world’s worst nuclear accident, residents of Redkovka, a village just 35 km from the reactor, refused to leave.

Lida and Mikhail Masanovitz, both in their 70s, live in the desolate village. The couple were both born in Redkovka, and never considered moving out, not even after they learned about Chernobyl.

The village today lies almost empty and decrepit. It is classified a zone two, making it too dangerous for anyone to live in. Its remaining residents are living off the land, eking out their silent years in the shadow of Chernobyl.

The word "karoshi" came into common use around 1990, when Japanese workers began working longer hours in response to competition from overseas and the recession at the time. Despite increased awareness of the dangers of overwork, de-regulation and increased global competition means that Japanese workers are working harder than ever.


About 20 years ago, heart attacks or strokes were a symbol of ‘karoshi’ in Japan. Today, workers are committing suicide. Of the more than 30,000 suicides recorded 2009, 10,000 were believed to be related to work, according to data from the national police agency. Suicide triggered by overwork is particularly prevalent among white color workers, also known as “salarymen” in Japan. Salarymen devote long work hours and loyalty to companies in exchange for a life-time of employment and benefits.

 

With the recession of the 1990s and the lifting of a ban on the use of cheap temporary laborers, salarymen increasingly work longer hours because of a shortage of manpower and the fear of losing jobs.

Shiho Fukada 深田 志穂 is a Japanese photojournalist currently working out of Beijing, China. Her clientele consists of The New York Times, MSNBC, Le Monde, the Chicago Tribune and the New York magazine, among others. She won the Grand Prize in Editor and Publisher Magazine’s Ninth Annual Photos of the Year contest in 2008. Fukada also won an Alicia Patterson Journalism Fellowship in 2010 to research and photograph Japan's disposable workers.

Fukada majored in English literature and first worked in fashion advertising as an account executive. She borrowed a 35 mm SLR camera and started making photos.

C’est un sous-bois calme. Une forêt de résineux qui filtrent une lumière grise, un sol soigneusement entretenu, propre, quelques arbrisseaux fragiles au vert plus tendre poussent entre les troncs chenus aux écailles d’écorce gris acier laissant apparaître ce brun rougeâtre caractéristique des espèces. Les troncs de trois des arbres, vers l’avant, sont ceints d’écharpes blanches brodées de couleur. L’image, en couleurs, prise à la chambre et d’une qualité technique impeccable est résolument frontale, sans effet. C’est une de ces images documentaires d’aujourd’hui, sans pathos comme il se doit et, si nous la retrouvions sur le stand d’une galerie d’art contemporain dans une grande foire, nous n’en serions pas étonnés : elle s’inscrit dans la droite ligne des réflexions formelles sur le paysages, elle flirte avec les échos du land art, elle pourrait appartenir à la vogue actuelle de l’image mise en scène. Si elle n’est pas contextualisée, si aucun mot ne vient nous apporter d’information, elle est, comme toutes les photographies, dotée d’un impact visuel indéniable qui n’a d’égal que sa totale imprécision par rapport à ce qu’elle représente. Organisation de formes dans le rectangle elle propose à notre œil de circuler dans sa géométrie pour un parcours qui, obligatoirement, nous ramènera à ces écharpes, à ces étoles qui, entre pansement et rituel mystérieux signalent simplement que ce bois n’est pas ordinaire, qu’il n’est pas comme les autres.

Mais cette image est accompagnée d’une légende, d’un texte : Kiev Bykovnia
Lieu où reposent entre 30 000 et 100 000 victimes. La plus grande nécropole des victimes du communisme soviétique en Ukraine. Des serviettes brodées, qui sont des éléments de rites ukrainiens traditionnels, populaires et religieux, sont attachées aux pins.
