Melanie Manchot’s films and photographs offer unexpected views of people and their relationships to one another. La Vallée de la mort Jeanloup Sieff | La Lettre de la Photographie

La Vallée de la mort Jeanloup Sieff | La Lettre de la Photographie | Photography Now | Scoop.it

Jeanloup Sieff mentally built the book’s structure like a prewritten screenplay. The autobiographical structure of the travel log, written with true literary talent nourished by his knowledge of the classics, was to be a reflection of the aesthetics of the photographs designed to function autonomously, keeping reality at a distance.

Pepper Spray Meme Going Too Far?

Pepper Spray Meme Going Too Far? | Photography Now | Scoop.it

A Internet meme starts to have a life of it's own, and that raises other issues. Defacing iconic photographs of dramatic 20th century events just for the sake of humor is perhaps going to far and can be seen not only tasteless but also insulting. On this article Stella Kramer gives her opinion.

Diane Sagnier, winner of the Prix Picto | La Lettre de la Photographie | Photography Now | Scoop.it

Born in 1990, I first became interested in the image at a very young age, inspired by my father’s passion for photography and my grandmother’s career as an artist. My photographs have evolved not only technically, but also in terms of feeling. They inevitably revolve around a certain aura, muses, handsome boys and pretty things, memories, atmospheres, the melancholy of happier times. Fashion serves as a compass for creation, as a rational and practical response to the question “Why?” which allows me to make my work more marketable and gives me direction.

ANTOINE D’AGATA: “Until the World No Longer Exists” (2004)

ANTOINE D’AGATA: “Until the World No Longer Exists” (2004) | Photography Now | Scoop.it

The night, the sex, the wandering… and the need to photograph it all, not so much the perceived act but more like a simple exposure to common and even extreme experiences… It is an inseparable part of photographic practice, in a certain sense, to grasp at existence or risk, desire, the unconsciousness and chance, all of which continue to be essential elements.

Crowdfunding vs. Grants: Numbers and thoughts | emphas.is | Photography Now | Scoop.it

An informative post by Canadian photographer Donald Weber with tips for writing grant applications has been getting a lot of attention recently on Facebook and Twitter. SALLY MANN: “Emmett’s Story” (2007) | Photography Now | Scoop.it

When Mann, a photographer known for her compelling familial series Immediate Family (1984-1991) who recently turned to landscapes, first visited Mississippi in the fall of 1998 she experienced the unique sensation of traveling “into the Delta;” the implication being not only traveling through physical space but rather of passage back in time, to a setting that seems even more southern that the rest of the state

Critical Mass: Bill Vaccaro

Critical Mass: Bill Vaccaro | Photography Now | Scoop.it

My enthusiasm for fireworks goes back to the time my parents first took me to a Independence Day celebration in Buffalo, New York. It became a regular summertime ritual and only fueled my desire to experience them firsthand. That came one summer in the mid 60s when a grammar school buddy managed to get his hands on some (now illegal) cherry bombs and M-80s.
