This Week In Photography Books

This Week In Photography Books | Photography Now | Scoop.it
It wasn’t until this morning, a few minutes ago, that I noticed the connection. As you might imagine, I take a big stack of books from photo-eye each time I visit, and make my selections later on, at home.

You can’t take a photographer seriously if they dont use a big imposing DSLR, and a really big long zoom lens.
Aye right. If you believe that you’ll probably also believe I can sell you a really nice big bridge in San Francisco for $100.

Is green the color of silence? (part 1)

Is green the color of silence? (part 1) | Photography Now | Scoop.it

For Lauren Henkin, silence is an orchard but it’s actually while I was looking through her series of cards (deck of chords) that I started to realize the relaxing power of photography. By flipping through Deck of chords, you find the peace of looking through train windows.

ANTONIO LOPEZ: Instamatics

ANTONIO LOPEZ: Instamatics | Photography Now | Scoop.it

Antonio was a magnet for beautiful, fun, sexy people, and his portraits – done with a ten-dollar camera– exude that Latin lover artist passion that he was all about. He got more sex from a shoe and a drugstore camera than most fashion photographers got from nudes in a million-dollar studio.

What Is A Picture Worth: Part Four

What Is A Picture Worth: Part Four | Photography Now | Scoop.it
Beside the fact that I never camp, I am still not a happy camper. I have been putting off writing my ruminations because I feel like a lone wolf in the arctic, howling into an empty world with nobody listening.

Even the simple and mundane should be celebrated.

Eva Koleva Timothy – Lost in Learning

Eva Koleva Timothy – Lost in Learning | Photography Now | Scoop.it

What I often find when a book combines a large amount of text in conjunction with photographs, it seems that either the text or the photographs seems to dominate. In some cases there is delicate balance between the two, which I now have come to understand is much harder than it might first appear. With Eva Koleva Timothy’s self-published book, Lost in Learning, it appears to me that the beautiful black and white photographs support the written narrative.

Review: Carnal Knowledge by Malerie Marder

Review: Carnal Knowledge by Malerie Marder | Photography Now | Scoop.it

Much could be said about contemporary nude photography, provided we properly defined it first. The very first photograph sets the tone of the book: A naked woman and a man are facing each other in an indeterminate room, and the viewer is turned into a voyeur of sorts by the fact that the encounter is seen through the room’s window (the curtain is pulled aside).
