Share the Word is an art project led by photographer Spag and graffiti artist Seb Toussaint, set in different slums and low income neighbourhoods around the world. The first episode takes place in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Share The Word is the Outsiders Krew's first worldwide art project, mixing graffiti, photography and film, and using art to create bridges between cultures. The Krew chooses to work inside each neighbourhood for 3 to 5 weeks, and asks each household to give them one word that they want to express. Each word will then become the main feature of a spontaneously-painted mural by artist Seb Toussaint. Spag, as the Krew's photographer, works to illustrate the chosen words by capturing scenes of daily life and portraits of locals, telling the story of the neighbourhood through his art. The project also aims to get the local community involved by encouraging the children to paint and learn graffiti by giving art classes on the streets.

This video was shot by the Outsiders Krew in Kampung Bayur, a neighbourhood of East Jakarta, in Indonesia. In a little more than 3 weeks, 15 murals were painted with words chosen by the inhabitants. All the murals were painted in freestyle.

The words are: Assalamu'alaikum (peace be upon you), Bismillah (in the name of god), Banjir (flood), Kali Malang (name of a river), Merdeka (freedom), Horas (congratulations), Nabila (name of a child), Alif (name of a child), Kali Sunter (name of a river), Peace, Kampung Bayur (name of the neighbourhood), Pendopo (meeting place), Pulang Basamo (to come together), Makasih (thank you), Harmony.

Ludruk | Photographer: Diego Verges

Ludruk | Photographer: Diego Verges | Scoop Photography | Scoop.it

Ludruk is a theatrical genres of East Java in Indonesia. It's a form of traditional performance presented by a troupe of actors on a stage, re-telling the life stories of everyday people and their struggles.

Most of the characters were performed by male actors who take the roles of women, but more recently, the sketches and farces feature mostly contemporary domestic stories, and have become commercial entertainment popular with urban and rural working-class audiences.

Diego Verges has produced a comprehensive photo essay on the Ludruk and as well as environmental portraits and scenes of these performers. Ludruk is a must-see for my readers as it merges portraiture, documentary and travel-ethnography photography, and also visually documents an art for that could well vanish in the years to come.  udiences

Julia B.'s insight:
Project Goals Drinking water, tents, blankets, food and medicines are the most important thing the affected people need now in order to survive. With 80 € we can provide one family with emergency aid for one month. With over 350 kilometres per hour and a diameter of 600 kilometres typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines. No electricity. No food. No water. Houses and buildings leveled. Bodies scattered on the streets. Hospitals overrun with patients. Medical supplies running out. "I do not know what to do and where to go," says a young girl. "I try to somehow survive this day. But what will be tomorrow and the day after tomorrow? Nothing is like it is was before, everybody, everything is lost…." CARE is delivering food, water, shelter and other essentials to the survivors of typhoon Haiyan, which has torn a path across the Philippines. As many as 10,000 people are feared dead while 9.8 million people have suffered the impact of the storm. Drinking water, tents, blankets, food and medicines are the most important thing the affected people need now in order to survive. Also we want to help: With 80 € we can provide one family with emergency aid for one month.

"The Coal Question": Kemal Jufri receives Gold Medal Award from Prix De La Photographie Paris

"The Coal Question": Kemal Jufri receives Gold Medal Award from Prix De La Photographie Paris | Scoop Photography | Scoop.it
Julia B.'s insight:

Indonesian photographer Kemal Jufri receives Gold Medal Award from Prix De La Photographie Paris for his work on coal industry in Indonesia.

Indonesia is the fifth largest coal producer in the world today and as of 2009, is the second largest exporter after Australia. This archipelagic nation only uses approximately 13 percent of the coal it produces for domestic consumption and the remaining 87 percent is sold to the rest of the world.
Coal powers 41 percent of the world's electrical supply. This led to the dramatic increase of world coal demand, which in turn prompted the industry to grow in leaps and bounds. However, irresponsible coal exploitation results in adverse impacts and comes at the expense of human health, environmental degradation and global climate change -- a high cost to pay when alternative energy is a cleaner, safer and healthier option.
In Indonesia, where open-pit mining is predominantly practiced, coal leaves an irreparable trail of destruction in its chain of custody from extraction to burning. The story of coal is a tale rife with destructions and misery rooted in irresponsibility.

About the Artist:

Kemal Jufri is a freelance photographer with over a decade of experience covering stories across Asia with focus on Indonesia, for international publications including Time, Newsweek, The New York Times, BusinessWeek, Stern, Der Spiegel, amongst others.

He is a recipient of numerous awards and grants from some of the world's most prestigious institutions such as the World Press Photo, Missouri School of Journalisms Picture of The Year International (POYi), National Press Photographers Association's Best of Photojournalism (NPPA BOP), Prix De La Photographie Paris (PX3), PDN Photo Annual and many more.

Film: The Photograph by Nan Triveni Achnas , 2008

Film: The Photograph by Nan Triveni Achnas , 2008

I am not used to watch a fim on the net but It's the only one and whole version I have at last... found ! (Original Broadcast Version)

Synopsis:

"Sita is a spirited young woman working to support her family as a singer and prostitute in a local brothel. Always short of funds and bullied by her pimp, she convinces an elderly portrait photographer, Mr. Johan, to rent her a room. In failing health, Mr. Johan is desperate to find an apprentice to carry on his work before he dies. The unlikely bond that develops between Sita and Mr. Johan is the basis of writer/director Nan Achnas' visually brilliant and poignant human drama about the profound effect one life can have on another."

Wonderful !
