Yet another blurring of the lines between pro and amateur photographers.

So if you haven't come across scoopshot you have now. Its a "crowdsourcing service that seeks to connect both amateur (mobile) and professional photographers with media companies and other photo-buying bodies"

So where other services rely on you searching through stock photos this service allows media buyers to ask for photos to be submitted on a given subject 'Task'. Well worth a look and you might make a bit on the side.

Humanity takes millions of photos every day. Why are most so forgettable?

Humanity takes millions of photos every day. Why are most so forgettable? | photography in a digital world | Scoop.it
Facebook alone has been known to upload six billion photographs in a month. We snap as many pictures today, every two minutes, as were taken in the entire 19th century, another boom time for photography (Every photographer needs to read this.
Ezra Rushen's insight:

We are taking more photos than ever before. We share them on social platforms and they are gone from our concience in minutes. Sure they are relived by others as they are shared and housed on digital archives for future passers by but our connection with the moment is lost on a hard drive somewhere in Florida or Texas.

In this insightful article IAN BROWN points out a comment made by a fellow adjudicator of a photographic contest whilst referring to the way tourists take photos.

“They take the picture and then they show it to the people in the photograph: ‘Look, I’ve captured us. I’ve captured our moment.’ And after they’ve shown them the picture, I know it will never be put on a wall. It was more about getting the stamp of approval.” (The pictures we actually need to see are the ones on our desks, on our walls, in our wallets, in our minds.)"

When we took photos on film they were more precious. We took more time over their creation and they meant something to us. We placed them in expensive albums to show friends and relatives.

Dont get me wrong I am not sentimental about old photographic technology. It was expensive and hard to get consistent results. I have always loved new technology and Digital photography gives us the freedom to experiment and take risks. Just lets treasure the results and get them in our living spaces again.

Researchers Develop Telescopic Contact Lens, Give Your Eyes 2.8x Optical Zoom

Researchers Develop Telescopic Contact Lens, Give Your Eyes 2.8x Optical Zoom | photography in a digital world | Scoop.it
Are you ready for this? An international team of researchers have developed the world’s first telescopic contact lens — a 1.17mm thick pair of contact lenses that, when you want them to, will magnify your vision by 2.8x.
Ezra Rushen's insight:

I cant imagine it would be long before they build a camera into the lense. Google glass (http://www.google.com/glass/start/), a wearable computer with an optical head-mounted display connected camera that can interact with the Internet via natural language voice commands, is the first step towards this.

Already people are asking how long it might be before Google glass is incorporated into regular spectacles so this optical zoom contact lense would be a logical next step dont you think?
