ECEMBER 9, 2012 by Steve Coleman

I love to capture movement in a landscape photograph. I find it is very emotive and poetic.

A common way to capture movement is by using longer exposures while your camera is firmly fixed on a solid tripod; where the movement of elements in your subject, over time, are captured in a single photograph.

An alternative technique is to move the camera itself, while at the same time, taking a long-enough exposure to capture that movement of the camera relative to the subject.

Sharpening and Finishing Fuji X-Trans Files in Photoshop and Lightroom | Thomas Fitzgerald

Sharpening and Finishing Fuji X-Trans Files in Photoshop and Lightroom | Thomas Fitzgerald | Photography | Scoop.it
This is the long awaited final (for now) part of my series on Processing X-Trans files. In my ongoing quest to get the best from Fuji’s raw files, I’ve previously discussed the issue with Lightroom’s processing, some alternative ways of developing raw files using Iridient Developer and Photo Ninja. I’ve also offered some Lightroom sharpening presets that help mitigate the demosaicing issues a bit. Many of the comments I’ve received have been wondering if there’s a way to get close to the output of Iridient Developer or Photo Ninja using a combination of Lightroom and Photoshop. Surprisingly, the answer is almost. I’ve been working on this for a while now and I believe that by combining Lightroom and a little bit of Photoshop you can get close. The advantage of this is that you can get clean and organic looking results without having to learn a new piece of software, and by using the droplet as a plug-in approach I blogged about last week, you don’t even have to leave Lightroom.....

Children of the Omo | Photographer: Steve Mc Curry | Photography | Scoop.it
"The Omo River Valley is located in Southwest Ethiopia. It has been called “the last frontier” in Africa. There are nine main tribes that occupy the Omo River Valley, with a population of approximately 225,000 tribal peoples. " " The majority of the people living in the Omo River Valley live without clean drinking water and without medical care. It has been a privilege to go back to the Omo Valley in Ethiopia with my friend, John Rowe, to photograph the work he is doing with Lale Labuko in their mission to end the practice of mingi and to house and shelter the mingi children who have already been rescued. " " Lale, a 2013 National Geographic Emerging Explorer, learned about the practice of Mingi and made it his life’s mission to end ritual infanticide in his tribe’s culture. " - Steve McCurry

Facebook Tells the Story Behind Humans of New York as Part of 10th Anniversary Celebration - The Phoblographer | Photography | Scoop.it
“Inspiring, breathtaking, and at times, funny, there’s no denying that Humans of New York is one of Facebook’s most wonderful success stories so it’s not surprising at all that the social networking site, a success story in its own right, has chosen HONY as one of the 10 stories to feature in celebration of its 10th anniversary.”

Finding the perfect, compact tripod for the X-2, X-Pro, and X-T1 | Tom Grill

Finding the perfect, compact tripod for the X-2, X-Pro, and X-T1 | Tom Grill | Photography | Scoop.it
As the Fuji X-camera system continues to expand and improve, I find myself using it more frequently. I have been riding a bike in New York ever since I can remember, and always carried a camera with me when I go exploring the city, and a Fuji X camera system is the perfect size. I rarely need to carry a tripod on these trips, but lately have wanted to do some long exposures where a tripod is a necessity. Problem is that my normal Gitzo tripod isn't really compact enough to fit in my accessory bag. So I began a search for very small, light-weight tripod that would still be sturdy enough to hold an X-camera steady. That search led me to the Sirui T-025X. The Sirui T-025X is a carbon fiber tripod that folds to just 11.8" (30cm), yet opens to a 54" height. It also has a number of other features I like, such as quick twist legs where you can open and lock all leg extensions with one hand motion -- the same as on my favorite Gitzo....

New ARRI ALEXA XT B+W Monochrome Camera is Native 2000 ISO & Has 15 Stops of Dynamic Range « No Film School | Photography | Scoop.it
Seems like it’s all ARRI news lately, but the company has another new product coming out. We’ve talked a bit about the RED EPIC Monochrome camera that shoots only in black and white, and it gives spectacular results. Now, ARRI is coming right back with their own monochrome camera, which takes most of what people like about the current ALEXA, and pumps up the performance even more. Not only is this camera monochrome, but it’s capable of shooting infrared with the switch of a filter. Check out some of the footage shot on the new B+W:
