Sometimes in photography everything is right there infront of you, blue skies, draping US flag, skyscrapers and oh yeah some pretty ginormous people. This great series is captured by Zed Nelson and gives the viewer an insight into ‘Fat nation’.

¿Qué salvarías de una inundación? // What would you save in a flood? (by Martin Parr)

¿Qué salvarías de una inundación? // What would you save in a flood? (by Martin Parr) | Photographic | Scoop.it

The photographer Martin Parr has teamed up with Oxfam to take portraits of celebrities with the one item they would save if their home were flooded.

The series of shots follow a trip Martin Parr took with Oxfam in 2009 to flood-hit Quang Tri province in Vietnam. Here he photographed people who were struggling to cope with increasingly unpredictable flooding owing to climate change. Parr asked them to pose with the possession they battled to save when their homes were unexpectedly hit.

Ciudad de sombras // City of shadows (by Alexey Titarenko)

Ciudad de sombras // City of shadows (by Alexey Titarenko) | Photographic | Scoop.it
Alexey Titarenko has photographed Saint Petersburg since he was 8-years-old. In fact, he says, he has dedicated his whole life to the city. Titarenko sees his photographs as reflecting the history of his city, and Russia, over the past 20 years.

“Through the prism of my native city, I attempt to show events that occurred not only here, but throughout the country – the changes, the catastrophies, and the human tragedies, which have swept this city and the people of this land.”

Portraits of Playboy Bunnies Many Years Later

Portraits of Playboy Bunnies Many Years Later | Photographic | Scoop.it

These headshots, taken at the Former Playboy Bunny Reunion in Las Vegas, are the result of my interest in the women of Playboy and where they are now. The tight frame and non-retouched images allow space for one’s personal reflection on age and beauty. The body language suggests even more about who these women are: strong, beautiful, fragile, provocative, and everything in between.

photo-eye is happy to present our Best Books of 2012. This is the time of year when nearly every publication comes out with at least one year-end list. Some people love them, some hate them, and their value is nearly always up for debate, yet they seem irresistibly interesting. What we strive for with our list is a little different from most, and this year we thought we'd clarify our process

EXCLUSIVE: SLR Magic 35mm 0.95 lens - FIRST LOOK | F8 Photography Hong Kong

EXCLUSIVE: SLR Magic 35mm 0.95 lens - FIRST LOOK | F8 Photography Hong Kong | Photographic | Scoop.it

I was recently approached by SLR Magic man Andrew Chan with regards having a play with one of his new lenses, namely the 35mm 0.95 lens….of course I was keen to have a look at it, especially knowing that nobody else has used it, so I would be getting the first ‘hands on’ usage for stills photography and using the new Fuji XE1 to shoot it. One thing I’ve hear A LOT from people is how you can’t get decent BOKEH (background blur) with these smaller sensor cameras…..well ladies and gentlemen….just look at the image below, shot from about 1.5 metres away…..and then redefine your beliefs….because if thats not bokeh-liscious…then nothing is….

5 Things Stephen Shore Can Teach You About Street Photography | Eric Kim

5 Things Stephen Shore Can Teach You About Street Photography | Eric Kim | Photographic | Scoop.it

(All images in this article are copyrighted by Stephen Shore)

While in Amsterdam I checked out the FOAM photography museum and picked up a book on Stephen Shore. For those of you who may not know, he is one of the early color pioneers in photography in America. Although his style is classified more as documentary and urban landscape, I think there is a lot of things we can learn from him as street photographers. If you are interested in learning more about color and street photography, read on!
