Katrin Cole | Fashion photographer: Serge Bouvet | PHOTOGRAPHERS | Scoop.it

For Fortune Cookie/Photographer: Le Pinch Martin Tremblay

For Fortune Cookie/Photographer: Le Pinch Martin Tremblay | PHOTOGRAPHERS | Scoop.it

For Fortune Cookie, photographer Martin Tremblay, also known as Pinch, turns the fashion world upside down, literally. As part of a shoot commissioned by London-based Schön! Magazine, he captures models floating, their heads planted on an overturned floor. Though the planet is jarringly inverted, normal life continues unchanged while fantastical female muses clad in Dolce & Gabbana, Marie Saint Pierre, and Givenchy adapt to a reverse gravitational pull. Here, the world of fashion and the mundanities of the everyday exist both in harmony and in conflict, moving in opposite directions and yet unified under a single, vibrant aesthetic.

Fortune Cookie was researched over the course of two years and created with more than one hundred and sixty hours of meticulous retouching in collaboration with Visual Box. Styling was done by Pascal & Jérémie. In this magical realm, the imaginative mind runs free, suspending rational thought if only for a moment.

Chen Man : Top Chinese Fashion Photographer

Chen Man : Top Chinese Fashion Photographer | PHOTOGRAPHERS | Scoop.it

“It’s Time For The New Generation To Build Its Own Aesthetic & Moral Language”

Since bursting onto the scene in 2003, Beijing native Chen Man (陈曼) has emerged as China’s leading fashion photographer. Having launched her career with Chinese Vision magazine, Central Academy of Fine Arts-trained Chen — known for her stylized, highly saturated and somewhat surreal imagery and otherworldly sense of color — has become one of her country’s most sought-after fashion photographers. In recent years, Chen has made a name for herself shooting celebrities like Victoria Beckham, Faye Wong, Fan Bingbing and Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana for the Chinese editions of magazines such as ELLE, Vogue and BAZAAR, as well as campaigns for brands like Shanghai Tang, Absolut, Celine, Shiseido and Coach.

This year, Chen’s work has appeared on the cover of i-D magazine’s Chinese New Year issue, and Chen’s collaboration on a makeup collection with the New York-based cosmetic brand M.A.C. was released worldwide this March. Like contemporaries such as Quentin Shih (Jing Daily interview), Chen’s work fits in a unique and nebulous niche, somewhere between fine art and commercial fare, giving it a global appeal to art-lovers and brands alike and, as such, keeping her extremely busy.

Recently, Jing Daily discussed Chen’s conceptions of China’s emerging photography scene, how she sees her place in it, and what she thinks of comparisons to her work with that of Lady Gaga. Interview translated from the original Chinese.

Surreal fashion | Fine art photographer: Miss Aniela

Surreal fashion | Fine art photographer: Miss Aniela | PHOTOGRAPHERS | Scoop.it
British fine-art and commercial photographer, Miss Aniela

Miss Aniela is a fine-art and commercial photographer, and published author based in the UK.

Aniela is the middle name that forms the pseudonym of Natalie Dybisz, the photographer behind the name.
Miss Aniela’s self-portraiture began with spontaneous impulses to shoot portraits ‘starring’ herself with improvised lighting and simple set-ups.
Her work has been compared to the work of Francesca Woodman and Sam Taylor-Wood, and the comparisons to Cindy Sherman are also obvious.
However, Miss Aniela constantly seeks to explore and remix her multifarious inspirations to contextualize herself into different imagined narratives, intended as both personal and universal.
She takes her inspiration from a variety of sources: from dreams and childhood, to literature and Dutch paintings.

Natalie’s first book Self-Portrait Photography was published in the UK and US in 2011, and her second book, Creative Portrait Photography in spring 2012.
She is currently working on her semi-commercial series ‘Surreal Fashion’ and fine-art environmental series ‘Ecology’.

Jing Daily Interview: Fashion Photographer :Quentin Shih | PHOTOGRAPHERS | Scoop.it

"Perhaps best known for his controversial 2010 Dior “Shanghai Dreamers” campaign, Tianjin-born, New York and Beijing-based artist Quentin Shih (时 晓凡) is one of the most highly regarded and sought-after Chinese fashion photographers. The self-taught artist, who cut his teeth shooting his hometown’s underground music and art scenes, started his career off in Beijing, then New York, as a fine art photographer, turning increasingly to commercial and fashion work since 2007. Since then, Shih has shot campaigns for brands such as Adidas, Microsoft, Sony and Siemens, as well as spreads for major publications such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Esquire. Most recently, Shih shot the “Lolita”-inspired lookbook for designer Liu Lu’s brand, Luvon, referenced in February by Hong Huang in her column for WWD, ChinaFile."

SAPE | Photography Francesco Giusti

SAPE | Photography Francesco Giusti | PHOTOGRAPHERS | Scoop.it

Francesco Giusti says, ‘In Congo-Brazzaville SAPE is an old passion that has never stopped, not even during war years. At the arrival of the French in Congo at the beginning of 9oo, the myth of elegance was born among young people working for the settlers. In 1922, Andre Grenard Matsoua, well-known for his resistance to the settlers, was the first Congolese to come back from Paris well dressed like a true French “Monsieur”, and greatly admired by all his fellow citizens. Today’s members of the SAPE consider themselves as artists and are respected and admired by the whole community.

The members of the SAPE take a touch of glamor into their humble environment with their refined style and faultless clothes. Everyone has his own repertory of gestures, marking him from all the others. Elegance is not the only important character. In fact, a true member of the SAPE is a gentleman and a pacifist. Every weekend the members of the SAPE, with their eccentric and amusing nicknames, gather in bars and fashionable dancing halls and parade in the streets among amused children and the applause of passers-by. These extemporized and spontaneous parades are the expression of a urban culture looking for new reference parameters and codes such as non-violence and elegance. They reflect the wish of young people in particular not to be left apart by society’.
