Ricoh launches standard zoom GXR module with 16MP APS-C sensor : Digital Photography Review

Ricoh launches standard zoom GXR module with 16MP APS-C sensor : Digital Photography Review | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

"Ricoh has released a 24-85mm equival ent F3.5-5.5 zoom module with a 16MP APS-C sensor for its GXR system. The latest camera unit offers a flexible focal length range that starts slightly wider than the average kit zoom, without making the camera excessively large. It's the first GXR module to be built around a 16MP sensor. Announced back in November, it is the first zoom module for the system to offer APS-C image quality. If our suspicions are correct and it uses the excellent Sony 16MP sensor, this promises a lot both in terms of image quality and focus speed (the faster readout of the sensor helps contrast-detection systems to more quickly ascertain correct focus)."

Sean Reid's Ricoh GXR Mount A12 Report

Sean Reid's Ricoh GXR Mount A12 Report | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

Michael has asked me to share some initial impressions of Ricoh's new Mount A12 unit for their GXR system. Ricoh GXR M-mount Unit Presentation

In January 2011, Ricoh announced their plans to introduce a new M-mount GXR cartridge that will take Leica M lenses without the need of an adapter. The expected specs are:
- 23.6mm × 15.7mm, APS-C size, 12.9MP, CMOS sensor
- Newly developed focal plane shutter
- No model name yet for the module
- Expected Release Fall 2011

What a stupid idea: mounting full frame leica M lens in front of an APS-C sensor... :(

Ricoh GXR A12 Field Report

Ricoh GXR A12 Field Report | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

"OK, You asked for it – a digital camera with interchangeable sensor. Why buy a whole new camera every time a new generation of sensor comes along – you asked, and many are still asking. The answer is – because few companies have the moxie to make such a device. Ricoh does, and has.

But, until now Ricoh didn't quite get it right. The reason is that the sensor lies between the body and the lens, and not having a line of interchangeable lenses (at the time), Ricoh decided to sell their sensor models with lenses built in. Humm. Not so attractive; A – because it means that one is stuck with just one lens, and B – when you upgrade the sensor you lose the lens as well.

With the just shipping (September, 2011) Mount A12 (catchy name isn't it?) Ricoh has taken their GXR interchangeable sensor concept and made it click (pun intended). Instead of a sensor with a lens, to attach to your GXR body, they have produced a sensor with a lens mount; a Leica M lens mount to be precise..."
