Pentax manager on their mirrorless camera: “We’re on it” (NC-1)

Pentax manager on their mirrorless camera: “We’re on it” (NC-1) | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it
DSLR magazine interviewed Mr. Kawauchi (Pentax Product Planning Manager) at the CP+ show last week and he pretty much confirmed the upcoming Pentax NC-1 mirrorless camera (computer translation):

The answer, immediate, well-articulated, it is clear that is planned and well learned, but in any case seems elusive, since the logic is obvious: “Mirrorless concept is very attractive to us, full of potential, but having into account the philosophy of our firm, if we decide to do something in this respect has to be different, and it is not easy in the current context, to do something that is different and good… We’re on it.”

Pentax is expected to release their own mirrorless NC-1 camera in the next few months. The camera will have a 1/2.33″ in. sensor.

Nikkor AF-S 35mm f/1.4 G (FX) - Review / Lab Test Report - Photozone.de

Nikkor AF-S 35mm f/1.4 G (FX) - Review / Lab Test Report - Photozone.de | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it
A 35 mm lens with an ultra large aperture - that's a combination that Nikon has ignored for quite a while. Well, to be fair, they didn't ignore it completely. Until just recently they still sold the ancient manual focus Ai-S 35/1,4. However, an AF version of such a lens had never been announced.
This has changed now with the Nikkor AF-S 35mm f/1.4 G. It's one of the new ultra fast Nikkor primes, a product line that saw a significant refresh by Nikon in 2010, which was somewhat overdue to catch up with the competition. Regarding its street price of 1800 EUR/USD at the time of this review the lens is obviously not targeted at the consumer market.

How to take Black and White pictures

How to take Black and White pictures | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it
If you are inspired by the works of Ansel Adams, James Nachtwey or other masters of black and white photography, you probably want to try doing some B&W yourself. If you don’t know how to take black and white pictures and where to start, then this guide might help you to get into the world of B&W photography. I must admit that I am no guru when it comes to black and white photography, but I have been experimenting with it lately and would like to share what I have learned so far.

Tokina AT-X 16-28mm f/2.8 Pro SD FX (EOS) - Full Format Review / Lab Test Report - Photozone.de

Tokina AT-X 16-28mm f/2.8 Pro SD FX (EOS) - Full Format Review / Lab Test Report - Photozone.de | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it
Tokina is the smallest of the 3 big third-party manufacturers (Tokina, Tamron, Sigma). They offer a couple of fairly unexciting products but they're playing among the very best in one specific segment - ultra-wide angle lenses. Their APS-C format AF 12-24mm f/4 AT-X Pro DX and AF 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro DX received top scores here in the zone but till recently they didn't offer a full format equivalent here. However, they just released the Tokina AF 16-28mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro SD FX for full format DSLRs and that's certainly good news especially for Canon users who were not overly gifted with high performing Canon EF lenses in this range. Prise-wise the Tokina is, of course, competitive - it's roughly a third-less expensive than the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 USM L. The comparatively narrow zoom range may be somewhat disturbing for some but the truth is that this allows a higher performance ... at least on paper ... and most users will not need a longer setting than 28mm because this focal length range is already covered by standard zoom lenses.

Sony E 16 mm f/2.8 review - Introduction - Lenstip.com

Sony E 16 mm f/2.8 review - Introduction - Lenstip.com | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it
The youngest mirrorless system on the market – the Sony NEX- has only two lenses currently available for purchase, in its line-up. One of them is the Sony E 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS kit lens. Many people are also interested in the second option – the Sony E 16 mm f/2.8 “pancake”. Its small dimensions, attractive focal length and fastness are tempting – it seems such a good idea to put it on a NEX camera and create a lightweight set of good quality.
