Using A Game Controller To Cull & Sort Files In Lightroom

Using A Game Controller To Cull & Sort Files In Lightroom | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

So, you can spend hours and hours on Halo, but wrist gets tired after 20 minutes of culling photos? It could be related to fun vs. work, but it could also be related to wrist fatigue.

Hitting the forward/backward arrows and assigning numbers/colors hundreds of time can be hard on your wrist. Compared to say hitting hundreds of buttons while playing Call of Duty. There is a reason for this. The gaming industry wants you at your game controller so they heavily invest in ergonomics R&D. That investment pays off in terms of being able to play for prolonged period of time (yes, I would definitely not play prolonged periods of time if it wasn't for the comfy controller. HA!).

This concept of ergonomic controller cane be taken to the editing process. Here are three ways to use a game controller with Lightroom.

Lightroom 4.1 – RAW Conversion Issues With Fuji X-Pro1 | Todd Owyoung

Lightroom 4.1 – RAW Conversion Issues With Fuji X-Pro1 | Todd Owyoung | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

... for the most part, these smearing artifacts won’t show up in smaller prints and certainly not for online usage, but all the same my advice would be to hold off on important RAW conversions until Adobe addresses this issue. However, if you don’t mind exporting images and updating your images once a solution to this issue comes about, the fine detail missing in Lightroom 4.1 won’t been seen in smaller print sizes.

Lightroom 4 beta now available

Lightroom 4 beta now available | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

"The Lightroom team is proud to introduce the fourth major version of the product designed for and by photographers. It was 6 years ago today when we introduced the very first public beta of Lightroom at MacWorld on January 9, 2006. (Yes, it was Mac only, smaller in footprint than most raw files and didn’t have a crop tool!) Since 2006 we’ve been hard at work improving an application that’s intended to be as easy to use as it is powerful. This release builds on the fundamental performance architecture and image quality improvements in Lightroom 3 to provide a truly complete workflow solution. I kept hearing from customers that they love Lightroom but needed to leave the Lightroom to complete X, Y or Z. Lightroom 4 tackles those issues with improvements to image organization, adjustment tools and comprehensive publishing options."

Creatively Editing an Ordinary Landscape Image in LR4 | DIYPhotography.net | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

A while back I shared that fact that I was enjoying SLR Lounge's A-Z Lightroom video tutorials. One of the chapters I liked most is dealt with tweaking and adjusting an image which was hard to expose, turning it into a great landscape image. I asked Post Production Pye and the team over at SLRL for a tutorial on that technique which they gladly shared.

Lightroom 4.1 Now Available

Lightroom 4.1 Now Available | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

"Lightroom 4.1 is now available as a final release on Adobe.com and through the update mechanism in Lightroom 4. The goal of this release is to provide additional camera raw support, lens profile support and address bugs that were introduced in previous releases of Lightroom. In addition, Lightroom 4.1 introduces the following new features:

  • The ability to process HDR TIFF files. (16, 24 or 32-bit TIFF files) This can be useful if you have merged multiple exposures into a single 32-bit image using Photoshop’s HDR Pro. Using the new basic panel controls can be a very effective and straightforward method of achieving an overall balance across the tonal range.
  • Additional Color Fringing corrections to help address chromatic aberration. Click here to learn more
  • Save photobooks created in the Book Module as JPEG files
  • Publishing photos to Adobe Revel is now accessible via a Publish plugin

Bugs Corrected in Lightroom 4.1

The following bugs that were part the Lightroom 4 releases have been corrected. The team appreciates the very detailed feedback the community has provided on Lightroom 4 and we’re excited to correct a number of issues experienced by our customers. These issues have been FIXED:

  • Point Curve adjustments made in Lightroom 3 have been restored.
  • Edit-in functionality has been restored to external applications including Adobe Photoshop and Nik plugins
  • Addressed performance issues in Lightroom 4, particularly when loading GPS track logs, using a secondary monitor, and the controls within the Develop module.
  • Ability to update DNG previews and metadata for more than 100 photos has been restored.
  • This update allows for improved viewing of subfolders and stacks in folders with a large number of photos.
  • It was possible that a layout of a saved book could be lost after quitting Lightroom 4.
  • Adjustments made in the Develop module were not properly being reflected to photos that have been laid out in the Book Module
  • Postscript Type 1 Fonts do not appear in the Font menu within the Book module.
  • Clarity adds grey tinting to 100% white tones.

Known Issues in Lightroom 4.1:

  • Double byte fonts such as those found in Chinese and Japanese characters are not being exported to PDF or when published to Blurb.
  • The Revel Publish Service will delete photos from a carousel. This occurs when the customer asks Lightroom to delete the carousel and then cancels out of the confirmation dialogue box.
