Tokina exhibits 70-200mm F4 FX and 12-28mm F4 DX lenses at CP+

Tokina exhibits 70-200mm F4 FX and 12-28mm F4 DX lenses at CP+ | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

Tokina has announced it will be exhibiting two soon-to-be-released lenses at the CP+ trade show in Japan. The AT-X 70-200 F4 PRO FX VCM-S is a telephoto zoom that's designed for use on both full frame and APS-C SLRs, and features both optical image stabilisation and a ring-type ultrasonic autofocus motor with full-time manual override. Meanwhile the AT-X 12-28 F4 PRO DX is a replacement for the company's existing 12-24mm F4 wideangle zoom for APS-C cameras. But rather than making the lens wider to match its competitors, Tokina has chosen to extend it further into the 'normal' range, to give an 18-42mm equivalent zoom.

The 70-200mm F4 was first shown as a mock-up at CP+ last year (click here for link). It appears that the version on display this year is fully-working, and will be released to the market soon. There's no information yet on pricing and availability, or even which mounts the lenses will be made for (historically Tokina has produced lenses in Canon and Nikon versions, and most recently the 11-16mm F2.8 in Sony fit too).

Nikon launches 70-200mm F4 VR tele-zoom with claimed 5-stop stabilization

Nikon launches 70-200mm F4 VR tele-zoom with claimed 5-stop stabilization | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

Nikon has launched the much-rumored Nikkor 70-200mm F4G ED VR a lighter and more affordable tele-zoom with a claimed 5 stops of image stabilization. This is delivered by what the company terms 'third-generation VR,' which we're told is not a successor to VRII. The lens joins Nikon's range of constant-F4 lenses, alongside the 16-35mm F4 and 24-120mm F4 and includes both nano crystal coating and a ring-type AF-S motor to give full-time manual focus override. At $1400 the lens is priced relatively closely to the Canon equivalent's list price - as is the $224 optional tripod ring.

Schneider Kreuznach plans lens range for mirrorless and shows 14mm F2.0: Digital Photography Review

Schneider Kreuznach plans lens range for mirrorless and shows 14mm F2.0: Digital Photography Review | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

"Schneider Kreuznach has said it will begin making lenses for mirrorless systems, and has shown renderings of a 14mm F2.0 lens for the Micro Four Thirds system. The move will make Schneider one of the few independent lens makers building autofocus lenses for mirrorless systems, following the launches of lenses for Micro Four Thirds and Sony NEX from Sigma and a NEX 18-200mm from Tamron. As part of its annual review, Schneider says it will introduce a range of lenses for mirrorless cameras 'this fall,' which we're expecting to mean around the Photokina show in Cologne, this September."

Sony announces NEX-F3 16MP mirrorless and E 18-200mm F3.5-5.6 OSS LE lens

Sony announces NEX-F3 16MP mirrorless and E 18-200mm F3.5-5.6 OSS LE lens | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

"Sony has announced the NEX-F3 entry-level 16MP mirrorless camera and lightweight 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 OSS stabilized superzoom lens with for the E-mount. The NEX-F3 gains a built-in flash, along with the updated 16MP sensor from its NEX-5N big brother. Its big party trick is undoubtedly its LCD, whose image automatically mirrors when it's flipped up for taking self-portraits. Meanwhile, the E18-200mm F3.5-5.6 LE OSS is a more compact, lighter 11x superzoom lens for the NEX system. Starting in June, the NEX-F3 will have an MSRP of around $600, while the SEL18200LE will sell for around $850 from July.

With its 62mm filter thread, minimum focusing distance of 0.5m and 17 element/13 group design, the SEL18200LE does look a lot like the lens Tamron announced in December 2011."

Canon announces 24-70mm f/4L IS USM and 35mm f/2 IS USM EF lenses | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

Canon has announced two lenses for its EOS system. The EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM is designed as a relatively compact image-stabilized standard zoom for full frame SLRs, and will be offered as a kit with the EOS 6D. It includes a Macro setting offering an impressive 0.7x magnification, backed up by Canon's Hybrid IS that promises increased effectiveness at close distances. It's also weather-sealed, and will be available from mid-December at an RRP of $1499 / £1499.99 / €1459. Meanwhile the EF 35mm f/2 IS USM features an all-new optical design, and includes image stabilization and an ultrasonic focus motor. It will be in on sale early December for $849.99 / £799.99 / €849. Both lenses will work on full frame and APS-C cameras.

Canon has also introduced a new design of lens cap that includes a center-pinch mechanism for easier handling with lens hoods in place. Other brands have been offering this type of cap for years, but at least Canon has finally caught up. The new caps will eventually be supplied with all new Canon lenses, starting from January 2013.

Nikon announces AF-S Nikkor 24-85mm F3.5-4.5G ED VR affordable full-frame lens

Nikon announces AF-S Nikkor 24-85mm F3.5-4.5G ED VR affordable full-frame lens | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

"Nikon has announced the AF-S Nikkor 24-85mm F3.5-4.5G ED VR, a comparatively affordable, stabilized, variable aperture standard zoom lens for full frame cameras. It comes as Nikon celebrates the sale of the 70 millionth Nikkor lens since 1933, and the 30 millionth silent-wave motor lens since the system's introduction in 1996. It's hard not to interpret the announcement as lending weight to the rumors of an affordable full-frame body, since it's hard to imagine large numbers of D800 owners using a lens with a recommended price of $599 as their everyday lens."

Sigma announces a tiny 18-200mm stabilized lens

Sigma announces a tiny 18-200mm stabilized lens | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

Sigma announced for the Salon de la Photo a new light and tiny (8.5x7.5cm, 490g) 18-200mm stabilized zoom. The street price should be around 550€.

Press Release:

The Sigma Corporation is pleased to announce the release of the SIGMA 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 II DC OS HSM. This 11.1x high zoom ratio lens is designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras, incorporates Sigma’s original OS (Optical Stabilizer) function and offers a broad shooting range from wide angle to telephoto.
The SIGMA 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 II DC OS HSM is the successor to the SIGMA 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS/ HSM which was launched in June 2007. The lens is ideal for travel photography with a compact construction and length of just 87.7mm. This lens features FLD (“F” Low Dispersion) glass elements, which have the performance equal to fluorite glass, and SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements providing excellent correction of color aberration. Aspherical lenses give excellent correction for all types of aberration and distortion. The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting, ensuring high quality images throughout the entire zoom range. Sigma’s OS (Optical Stabilizer) system offers effective correction of approximately 4 stops, enabling easy handheld photography. HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) ensures quiet, high-speed auto focus and the inner focus system eliminates front lens rotation, making the lens particularly suitable for using the supplied petal-type lens hood and circular polarizing filters. The rounded 7 blade diaphragm creates an attractive blur to the out of focus areas of images.

* Sony and Pentax mounts do not incorporate Optical Stabilization.
