Not mentioned in this article is a useful browser add on called "Terms of Service; Didn’t Read" (do a search for it.) TOS's can often times be too long and too boring. This app does whatever it can to summarize it and give ratings from www.tosdr.org .
If you want to find out information about the owner of a cell phone number, the information may not be readily available in a search engine. If you subscribe to a reverse phone lookup service, that can be hit or miss. These companies do whatever they can to find you the owner's full name and other information. Based on my experience, I was able to match more phone numbers with the owner's real info than not. Its important to get one that offers a free trial, or your money back if you're not satisfied with the results. Often times, websites where you perform a background check on someone for personal use have a feature where you can do a reverse phone search.
You can ask your phone service provider to block calls from specific numbers, but it may be more practical to screen all calls from unfamiliar numbers and respond only to the legitimate callers.
