Vaccinations: The Expanding Role of Pharmacists | pharmacy | Scoop.it

Immunization can sometimes seem like an impossible task with the millions of people in this country. However, the most accessible medical professional, the pharmacist, is leading the charge to overcome immunization. It is the pharmacist responsibility to to distinguish between passive and active immunity, describe the mechanism of a diseases infection, and describe the differences between active and inactive vaccines.  An example of this is the live nasal spray flu vaccine versus the inactive shot vaccine.  The pharmacist will also determine which one is more effective for each individual citizen.

Recently, the threat of influenza on the population has been greater than ever.  Constantly mutating and adapting, the virus can only be contained by the use of an effective vaccine. The only professional with the expertise and capacity to do this is the neighborhood pharmacist.  Pharmacists are the key to stopping the spread of the virus which could easily lead to an epidemic if the population is not protected.
