Pharma Marketers alert - Disruptive tool you need to know about, and need! | Pharma Strategic | Scoop.it
Health tech startup Medikly disrupts pharma marketing with KONNECT that integrates content management, social media and big data analytics into one solution
Sven Awege's insight:

I personally love this platform, it is lightyears ahead of where we are today.

I have personally seen this platform in action. I'd even add to the first paragraph our bread-and-butter channel of eMail system (among other distribution tools).

You can use this one platform to find our target audience, generate in-bound traffic, track, listen, influence and analyse behaviour of our physcians.

Any digital content, even on third party sites, can be tracked back to get a full profile of channel attribution.

Hurdles migth arrise in Europe with privacy issues, and Pharma will have to be carefull to have extensive privacy and data management legal lingo disclaimers too, but if you think about this upstream it should be managable.

Healthcare analytics market to reach $10.8 billion by 2017? | Pharma Strategic | Scoop.it
A new report suggests that the healthcare analytics market may be worth $10.8 billion by 2017.
Sven Awege's insight:

Estimated at $3.7 billion in 2012.

There are going to be a lot of new actors aiming to capture a part of this. Each will bring new challenges to existing business models.

Is Pharma aware of this, and trying to understand the implications on how it will have to do business tomorrow?

I think not. Pitty, as usual those that are late to the table pay the bill.

Pharma MLR "Social Media Scaredy Cats" Don't Trust Their SM Pioneer Employees | Pharma Strategic | Scoop.it
It is quite bizarre that an industry that protects itself, claiming high prices for drugs, based on the assumed acceptance of taking on risk inherent in R&D is in fact so risk averse. Maybe the risk analysis in the pipe management isn't so bad as Pharma makes it out to be! Thanks John for your post!

PSFK's Gift Of The Day: Social Media Jeans

Sven Awege's insight:

Branded jeans manufacturer now designing social media into the fabric!

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to realise that these gate-keepers are signaling how the masses of tomorrow will adopt and integrate technology into their everyday life, making the "quantified self" a reality. Healthcare stakeholders should be strategically analysing what this could mean for their products/services, and how the overall experience can lead to better healthcare outcomes, in a frictionless and easy way.

Hey, we might even see adherence going up :-)

YouTube Officially Launches Redesign With Emphasis On Subscriptions

YouTube Officially Launches Redesign With Emphasis On Subscriptions | Pharma Strategic | Scoop.it
Over the last couple of months YouTube has been working on a new site redesign, rolling out experiments for user feedback.
Sven Awege's insight:

I had a personal call with the folks from Google to get a better understanding of this from the Pharma perspective. As usual, we're a bit different, so launch date in Pharma will be a couple to four months later. Still no "private groups's" though (which would be very useful for our breed!) - they recommend using the "communities" of google+ (unlikely to cut it though for our needs).

Social media a healthcare data gold mine

Social media a healthcare data gold mine | Pharma Strategic | Scoop.it
Bill Schmarzo envisions a future where holiday photos posted on Facebook become a gauge of a person’s weight loss or gain over time.
Sven Awege's insight:

Great to see such enthusiasm about the use of social media in healthcare. I fully agree with the direction, but have certain reservations on the Pharma (or should I say Big Pharma) cut.

"Pharmaceutical companies already analyse social media sites to track reports of side-effects of their drugs. That data can help correct formulas more quickly than waiting for the results of years-long clinical trials; it can also be used to set prices and test marketing slogans."

Where can brand teams get real insights into how to engage with their audience?

Where can brand teams get real insights into how to engage with their audience? | Pharma Strategic | Scoop.it

"After surveying 250 marketing executives and over 2,000 consumers, it’s clear that what marketers consider to be high-value engagement is not always thought of in the same way by consumers."...

Interesting article on a recent Forbes report about the disconnect between brands and consumers when it comes to social media.

Key findings of the report:

Marketers view consumers’ proactivity via social media as more engaging then consumers do. The inflation of “engagement” in this case has been caused by the ease of social media use and equating online followers with successful marketing. Measurement of social media engagement is an area where CMOs often don’t know what they don’t know.
Fundamental disconnects in how marketers and consumers understand and value engagement tactics may cost marketers great opportunities. The biggest schisms are found in approach to redemption rates, discount codes and loyalty programs. Additionally, marketers’ attempts at personalization and customization engage few consumers. This finding may stem from consumers’ high expectations of what true customization and personalization stands for.
Consumers identify strongly with brands, particularly younger consumers, who view their relationship with brands as a reflection of self. And they approach and interact with them in a variety of ways, from social media to traditional advertising. They don’t necessarily view this as engagement, however. Rather, their view of how they interact with and relate to brands is much more holistic.

Health games at work

Health games at work | Pharma Strategic | Scoop.it
Fran Melmed (@femelmed) writes:

In the past year, and much to my surprise, I’ve become a game developer.

My game, Hotseat, uses smartphones to get us up out of our seats throughout the day to reduce the health risks associated with prolonged sitting, or “sitting disease”—which include obesity, of course, but also kidney disease, heart disease, cancer and even earlier mortality. Hotseat lets users choose activities they wish to do and then books a rotating schedule of 2-minute breaks into their day, based on their calendar availability. Hotseat also allows users to engage in competitive and collaborative challenges.

Having created a game, I can tell you it’s no small undertaking to design something that adheres to the principles that make a game a game and that delivers the desired engagement, learning and emotional satisfaction that games do.
Via Andrew Spong
Sven Awege's insight:

Games are certainly a way to foster early engagement. Over time that enthusiasm will wane, and a more comprehensive integration of real world people will be needed to foster compliance.

People are important - technology has to make it seamless and fun. Technology on its own will not cut the long-haul.

Memo Touch helps elders with memory impairment, and their carers

Memo Touch helps elders with memory impairment, and their carers | Pharma Strategic | Scoop.it
Memo helps elders with memory loss remember important information and provides their caregivers with a simple way to post messages and reminders. Family members and other caregivers can update information remotely, from any location where they have internet access, 24/7. The elder needs no computer experience or technical skills at all - if they can watch a TV, they can use a Memo.

The Memo software was built on a ten-inch Android tablet. In addition to the day, date, time and messages, caregivers can add a calendar, a To Do list, the weather, phone numbers, and photo albums - whatever is appropriate for the cognitive abilities of the person they care for. Because all caregivers can see the postings of others, the device can help coordinate care among several family members and professional caregivers.

The device is limited to features that can be used with just one touch, with navigation so simplified that an elder cannot get lost in a confusion of menus and applications. Unlike other devices marketed to elders, Memo was developed specifically to address the problem of short-term memory loss. It is relatively simple, inexpensive, and easy to install and use.

Sven Awege's insight:

They might even consider adding the funtionality to offer this as a present this Christmas :-)
