Your Brain at Work

In his new book "Your Brain at Work," coach David Rock depicts the story of two people over one day at the office, and what's happening in their brains that makes it so hard to focus and be productive. Not only does he explain why things go wrong, but how you can train your brain to improve thinking and performance at work. Based on interviews with 30 neuroscientists, he's developed strategies to help you work smart all day.

The Neuroscience Of Effective Leadership

The Neuroscience Of Effective Leadership | Pformacademy | Scoop.it

What do you get when you cross your grandmother’s advice with the latest research in neuroscience?

According to Eric J. McNulty, this unlikely intersection holds the key to being a good leader. As the director of research at the National Preparedness Leadership Initiative, McNulty is often asked to recommend the latest and greatest reads on leadership. What he’s discovered is that books on brain science serve up sage insights more often than the traditional title penned from the corner office. He’s also observed that scientific research on the brain reveals what his grandma knew all along.

Effective leadership is a combination of common sense, patience and emotional iq. Similar to things you learn in kindergarten. My favorite McNulty thought is the one on Let me sit with that for a bit. Just because you aren’t doing something, it doesn’t mean that your brain isn’t working.

Sometimes we just try to over-think issues.  Give your brain a rest and more often than not a clear decision will emerge.

"Your leadership and your organization can reach great heights when you put the effort and time into developing leaders."

Leadership development requires consistent and persistent engagement from all its board members. If all the members are responsible for making leadership development an everyday busiess,

you can implement a systematic improvement in the process of

developing leaders in your workplace.

Six Leadership Styles by Daniel Goleman

Six Leadership Styles by Daniel Goleman | Pformacademy | Scoop.it

Daniel Goleman, in his article “Leadership That Gets Results”, has identified six different leadership styles, and he believes that good leaders will adopt one of these six styles to meet the needs of different situations.

None of the six leadership styles by Daniel Goleman are right or wrong – each may be appropriate depending on the specific context. Whilst one of the more empathetic styles is most likely to be needed to build long-term commitment, there will be occasions when a commanding style may need to be called upon, for example, when a rapid and decisive response is required.

Book Review - The Emotional Life of Your Brain, Part 2

Book Review - The Emotional Life of Your Brain, Part 2 | Pformacademy | Scoop.it

The core of Davidson’s book crystallises research how we ourselves uniquely react and respond to ‘life’s slings and arrows’. Individual response is unique mix across six dimensions — Resilience, Outlook, Social Intuition, Self Awareness, Sensitivity to Context, and Attention. We have a mix of these styles which means we could be highly resilient (resilience) but not very good at reading social cues (Social Intuition). The key difference between these defined domains and some kind of self help manual is that they are related to underlying identifiable brain systems and can be altered through mental and environmental changes.

Mindfulness and Neural Integration: Daniel Siegel, MD at TEDxStudioCityED

Daniel Siegel, MD, is Clinical Professor of psychiatry at UCLA, Co-Director of Mindful Awareness Research Center, Executive Director of Mindsight Institute, author, and recipient of numerous awards and honorary fellowships.

This talk examines how relationships and reflection support the development of resilience in children and serve as the basic '3 R's" of a new internal education of the mind.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.*

The Storyteller - How Leaders Persuade and Inspire with Business Stories

The Storyteller - How Leaders Persuade and Inspire with Business Stories | Pformacademy | Scoop.it

Do you know people who can masterfully tell the right story at the right time?

Quite often, the best storytellers become our managers and leaders.

Even if you have no designs on becoming a CEO or leading a division, you undoubtedly crave more control over your work, ideas, sphere of influence and others’ perceptions.

Effective storytelling can help you gain more control, while also building employee morale, strengthening teamwork and defining how problems can be solved. You’ll find it much easier to develop original and effective solutions to everyday challenges.
