Smithsonian Channel Commissions 9/11 DocBy Kristin BrzoznowskiPublished: April 7, 2013
CANNES: Smithsonian Channel has commissioned a new one-hour film from the producer Tom Jennings and his 1895 Films, entitled 9-11: The Heartland Tapes.
The for features local radio and television reports, air-traffic-control records, first-responder calls and more from all across the U.S. It employs similar techniques to what Jennings used with MLK: The Assassination Tapes, with no narration and no interviews. 9-11: The Heartland Tapes is slated for debut on the channel in September.
“There are so many films about 9-11 already in existence. We believe it’s a story that has not been told before.”
