Scheme for Peterborough residents 2 save money on energy bills 2 be discussed @ Cabinet meeting

Scheme for Peterborough residents 2 save money on energy bills 2 be discussed @ Cabinet meeting | Peterborough City Council | Scoop.it

A scheme which could see every Peterborough resident save money on their energy bill will be discussed by Peterborough City Council's Cabinet at a meeting on Monday 5 November 2012.

The Peterborough Collective Energy Scheme will enable people from across the city, and from other communities in the UK, to join together as a single unit to negotiate cheaper energy bills.

It's expected that residents could see energy savings of between £60 to £200 a year.

If the initiative is approved by councillors, Peterborough would lead the UK’s first ever collaborative scheme for collective energy switching. Fifteen local authorities will join the city council as part of the scheme, which in total will open up potential savings to two million UK households.

The Peterborough Collective Energy Scheme is a response to rising energy prices and an increase in the number of households in fuel poverty. To that end, the scheme will also be the first in the UK to allow residents who use pre-payment meters to register.

Lido should be open b4 9am during the week! | Peterborough City Council | Scoop.it

After a recent visit to the Lido pool, local LIB DEM councillor Darren Fower, says he still cannot understand why the City Council and Enterprise have not been openning the LIDO  before 9am from Monday to Firday, during this summer?

Last month Darren asked the question and Viviacity claimed that it was due to "...lack of demand and inclimate weather...." Source: https://twitter.com/cllrdarrenfower/status/228372480035786755

Commenting, Darren said, "I realise that there will be days when the weather is not great, but that problem will occur on Sundays too? There are plenty of people who, I'm sure would love to have a swim before work, hence why I cannot understand why they do not allow people to swim before 9am?"

During his latest visit, Cllr Fower did noticie that some of the keys do not match up with the lockers (see image) - BE AWARE!

Peterborough Planning Applications and Policies Stamped As 'Sound'

Peterborough Planning Applications and Policies Stamped As 'Sound' | Peterborough City Council | Scoop.it

A plan which sets out the policies Peterborough City Council will use when determining planning applications has been stamped as 'sound' by the Government's Planning Inspectorate.

The Peterborough Planning Policies Development Plan Document (DPD), together with the inspector’s report will be considered by the city council's Cabinet on Monday 5 November 2012 before being debated by the full council on Wednesday 5 December 2012.

The report was prepared by Planning Inspector Roland Punshon at the request of the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. His report makes a number of recommendations for modifications, all of which were suggested by council officers at the public examination stage.

The planning policies contained in the DPD cover issues such as the quality of new design, the impact of new development on people living nearby, the car parking standards that will be required for new developments, the amount of open space that will be required in new housing schemes and the protection of Peterborough’s heritage assets such as listed buildings and conservation areas.

Ppl in #Peterborough signing #Petition: "Introduce a dedicated cycle lane along Bridge Street" | Peterborough City Council | Scoop.it

Peterborough City Council claims it wants more people to cycle, yet the Leader, Marco Cereste says people DO NOT WANT a cycle lane along Bridge Street? A cycle lane WOULD increase safety, enable continuous cycling, allow police to concentrate on more pressing matters, remove the need for silly signs and prove Peterborough can emulate other leading cities in the UK who have managed to integrate cycle lanes throughout their centres.

"The Trib. has had sight of, and closely examined a circa 100 page highly detailed document, in the form of an open letter, and detailed indexed enclosures, which have now been formally served on Peterborough City Council, Central Complaints Department, the bundle also copied to Shalesh Vara MP , and served on the Local Government Ombudsman.

"The documents form a complex paper audit trail chronicling, the authors say 'a whole catalogue of complaints and serious allegations' relating to the legal challenges and the subsequent alleged manipulation and granting of planning permission for a controversial residential development at 157-161 Fletton Avenue under references 05/01449/OUT. 08/00070/REM. 08/00892/REM. 08/01504/REM. 09/01155/FUL & 10/00328/FUL all relating to 157-161 Fletton Avenue."

"...out of touch ..." Tory councillor response to query from Park ward resident! | Peterborough City Council | Scoop.it

A recent blog entry from a Park Ward resident, taxpayer, parent + local activisit, Fiona Radic, shows a response from Tory councillor Pam Kreling, after sending an email about the serious issue of the Tory controlled city council's planned incinerator.

Cllr Kreling, who sits on several council committees including Planning and Environmental Protection + Strong and Supportive Communities.........responded:

“I have evaluated all your points & have complete confidence in the Council to do the right thing. If you had your way, we would all be living in caves."

Commenting, Cllr Daren Fower fower said:

"In my opinion, this response shows just how out of touch some of the Tories on the Council are! It also helps you realise how simple it must have been for Cllr Cereste to take control of the local Cons, if this is the sort of person amongst the Peach Brigade ranks!

"Irrespective of Fiona's political persuasion, Cllr Kreling should remember that as a city councillor you should at least recognise other people have a right to their views and you should certainly not respond in such a degrading manner."

Wonder if a formal complaint will now be made????? Or whether Cllr Kreling will at least apologies???

Trees BLAMED 4 failed BIKE theft prosecutions - "Utter Rubbish!" | Peterborough City Council | Scoop.it

A recent article claims that CCTV cameras failed to record bike thefts "...in Peterborough city centre because trees obscured the view.."

I say what a load of BALLS! I suspect its more likely that the cameras are like too many other things at the TOWN HALL - cheap and out of date!

Equally importantly, who the hell put them up in the first instance? Who failed to notice the trees, who in this city is unfamiliar with "leaves" and "branches" ???

According to the article a police spokesman said; “CCTV was viewed for the time of the theft but the rack where the cycle had been locked up was blocked by the trees.”

He added: “We can’t just lop or cut trees down. The cameras and their use is controlled by Peterborough City Council.”

ANSWER: Move the CAMERAS and get decent locks for your bike.

City FOOD businesses ".....struggle to meet hygiene or health and safety standards..." What Say YOU?. | Peterborough City Council | Scoop.it

An environmental health chief at Peterborough City Council has said that on the whole, city businesses which either produce or sell food often struggle to meet hygiene or health and safety standards.

Pest infestations; a lack of hot or even running water; contaminated food and dirty premises have all prompted warnings from the council and officers have the power to immediately shut down a business if there is a serious risk to public health.

In 2011, around 130 warning notices were issued to catering or food businesses.

There are 1,800 food businesses registered in the council area, some of which will be inspected every six or 12 months, but others will only be inspected every two or three years.

Leader of the council Marco Cereste has had a change of heart and promised to meet campaigners who are protesting against the closure of two care homes.

Cllr Cereste was invited to meet the Greenwood House and Welland House Service Users Support Group, which was set up following the start of a consultation on the future of the two homes.

Peterborough City Council has earmarked both for closure which would force 32 residents to move out and about 80 day care residents to find another centre.

On Friday, the group received a letter from Cllr Cereste who said it was not necessary to meet campaigners during the consultation but today (Monday) he changed his mind.
