Kick A#@ Collaboration!

Program Title: Kick A#@ Collaboration!
Program Description: Want to inspire your kids to write, share their ideas and enjoy Language Arts? Teachers share how they resources such as Edmodo, Skype, Edublogs and Glogster to encourage their students to become more interested and engaged with their learning, both within and between their classrooms, including both online resources and integration strategies.

Take a Book of Poetry & box of crayons & edmodo
Example: Love That Dog
kids can write poetry (face 2 face mini lesson with skype)
assignment in edmodo poems by valerie worth
kids broke into groups (different school 3 from each school)
each group given a poem
kids & teachers post comments
brainstorm ideas--something that inspires
write poem

draw a picture
critique in edmodo
create a poetry group and post whenever you have something

Example: Adelina’s Whales both schools read
take the story and make it interesting
youtube search where the story takes place (the book is little girls point of view where whales come every year, and she says why it’s so special)
show them the movie so they have a real world connection to the book
takes the learning from the student and puts on the student

Flockdraw--look up online
draw a picture --brainstorm on how to save whales
write a book online
news clips of whales beaching
draw a picture and put poem on the drawing
INCREDIBLE--SO COOL

Then you can create a Glog in Glogster
collaborate?
pictures of hunters killing a whale made the kids understand
include everything they learned and incorporate into their Glog

Use Google docs to work on project
create a blog so the kids can comment and post (and others can, too)

collaboration between schools: lessons learned
find a common goal
meet quick--on skype
communicate constantly
plan--start small
let the kids pick the direction
kids must meet no matter what
be flexible!

http://issuu.com  to create a book then upload it (used the picture with poem on it)
Publish on http://lulu.com
parents can buy the book

Use Adobe Premiere elements: PC for green screening

http://wallwisher.com/wall/pete2012greenscreen

There’s an app for ipads
green screen studio $2.99
green screen movie effect $1.99

What do I use as a green screen?
fabric store & buy bright green cloth
you can buy Yoostar off Ebay or Amazon
tubetape.com to buy an expensive one

what do i use to take my video?
If you have a mac, you can use the video of photobooth
you can use a flip camera to take videos against the green screen then use effects in your movie software

why is my finished video or picture not coming out perfect?
lighting is essential to the green screen effect .. if you have too many shadows, then you will have spots that still show up green.. if you want perfection you need to have a thicker screen and better lighting
Distance is another factor. standing too close to the green screen produces shadows and can cause the screen to flutter.

I want to do green screening but how do i get started.
the easiest is to do is “This day in History”
history.com is a great resource for information
discoveryeducation.com is a great resource for videos and information

note: students can do an oral report by recording it. For students who are nervous about being in front of the room.

microphone can be used for better quality & sync later
Adobe Premiere Elements inexpensive for education
Timeline
use layers background is on the bottom, green screen on top
adjust audio on movie or delete
the dropper is the way to delete the “green” screen
very cool, very easy to use
