Everyone has his or her opinion on Steve Jobs and his reign as Apple CEO, but one thing is uneniable: Jobs knew how to build a brand as good, or better, than anyone in business.

"Branding answers the question of what are we here to do?"

This is a concept that a lot of modern companies and providers of both goods and services seem to struggle with. Brand establishes who you are, what your purpose is, and what you represent.

Building a brand can often start with identifying brand essence and brand personification.

What are the core concepts and ideas that define your brand? That is your brand essence.

How would you describe your brand as a living, breathing human being? That is your brand personified.

As such, your brand can then be the firm foundation for all integrated marketing campaigns and in turn, allow your entire portfolio of campaigns to all be tied back to one unifying message: you are your brand, and so are your products.

The article says, "The idea here is that often an opportunity reveals itself to you because you see the interconnection of two things, the interdependence of things, that others cannot see."

So can this ability be taught? Is it genetic?

I have thought about this for a long time, too.

My youngest son and I both have an enhanced ability to connect things that aren't normally connected. To visualize patterns that other's likely haven't thought of.

Here's one: I'm a CFO and a CMO. I've had both roles at the same company. More than once. Go figure. Not that I'm comparing myself to Musk and Jobs.

There has been quite a bit of talk lately on how these two don't see eye-to-eye. One is left-brained, and te other is right-brained, never the two shall meet.

I believe that when someone is super curious, they learn things that other's don't. When one that has explored work and life through a variety of glassese, instead of getting pigeon-holed in a career or doing one thing for a very long time, they can apply their whole mind to creative solutioning.

If a structured way to increase this ability exists, or proves successful, that's awesome. In the end, I believe it's quite simple: Give kids and adults a way to easily build new mental models (ala Jean Piaget) or in other words, more neural connections not only between the left and right brain, but within sections of the whole brain.

That's my two cents on it.

The internet of everything--annihilating time and space

The internet of everything--annihilating time and space | Personas 2.0: #SocialMedia #Strategist | Scoop.it

In the future of the internet of things, Wi-Fi is going to be everywhere, and the internet will connect you to every person and thing on the planet via transportation, teleportation and telepresence. A trillion wormholes will let you reach out from anywhere on earth and hug your loved ones, or try on a new pair of shoes, or unlock your bike.

In the future beyond the internet of things, all your senses will be wired directly into the internet’s wormholes, and you’ll be completely indifferent to the location of your physical body. When you look around you, you won’t be looking into a nearby region of space. You’ll be surfing an internet that annihilates all time and space – the internet of everything.

"Did you know you have two wireless modems in your head? Your eyes constantly receive radio signals in the visible spectrum, and your sense of vision connects your brain to nearby physical things, like a de facto Local Area Network. But your sensory LAN connection only extends as far as your line of sight. It’s nothing compared to a Wi-Fi internet connection.
