The school were I currently am employed uses his videos.  He is a dynamic teacher who offers math lessons for free.  This short article highlights some of the advantages of using his videos.  Students like his teaching because he helps them understand complicated mathematical concepts.  Students and teachers and pick and choose and now track their progress!

This article by  ASCD (formerly the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development) is an educational leadership organization dedicated to advancing best practices and policies for the success of each learner.  An interesting quote within the article clarifies the difference between personal and personalized learning which may be crucial in understanding personal learning environments.  "Autonomy is what distinguishes between personal learning, which we do for ourselves, and personalized learning, which is done for us," Downes (2011) tweeted last fall.

An interesting insight that MOOC will not take over colleges but instead broader and allows more specialized people to particate that are otherwise, restricted by distance.  Schools are also using it to prepare students for required classes that are lacking certain skills.  Accoring to this article, colleges (specifically small colleges) will continue to exist with MOOCs.

How young is too young to have your child start their own Personal Learning Environment?  Barnes and Nobles are selling tablets that offer parent control over the apps and other usage of tablets.  The question though is what does a tablet offer that other devices do not?  How can a child 5 years old (possibly younger) benefit from using a tablet?  These are the questions parents and educators need to ask when is too young for their child to create their own PLE?
