Personal Knowledge and Information Management
Personal Knowledge and Information Management (PKIM) is a collection of processes that a person uses to gather, classify, store, search, retrieve, and share knowledge in his or her daily activities (Grundspenkis 2007) and the way in which these processes support work activities (Wright 2005). It is a response to the idea that knowledge workers increasingly need to be responsible for their own growth and learning. (Smedley 2009) It is a bottom-up approach to knowledge management (KM), as opposed to more traditional, top-down KM. (Pollard 2008)

Information Overload Is Not Unique To Digital Age : NPR

The overload of the print revolution led to indexes, reference books, editors, authors, classification systems. 17 minute 48 second audio interview with author of "Too Much to Know" Managing Scholarly Information Before the Modern Age" -- Howard

"It is a constant complaint: We're choking on information. The flood of data on the Web has reached mind boggling proportions, and it shows no signs of stopping. But wait, says Harvard professor Ann Blair -- this is not a new condition."

Some thoughts about how important it is that librarians participate actively in the shaping of the new cloud-computing platforms which are are emerging from a number of organizations. The main reason for participation as librarians is simply this: to ensure the value of librarianship is contained within, and amplified by new technological foundations.

Make the room smarter | Personal Knowledge and Information Management | Scoop.it

"The title of Dave Weinberger’s book, Too Big to Know: Rethinking Knowledge Now That the Facts Aren’t the Facts, Experts Are Everywhere, and the Smartest Person in the Room Is the Room, describes what should happen in a room where knowledge is freely shared. However, in most organizations, invisible power structures influence communications and the flow of knowledge. Some of these power messages are even embedded in the environment, as the SPATIAL learning model shows."

Want To Use Search Tags For Social Networks?

Want To Use Search Tags For Social Networks? | Personal Knowledge and Information Management | Scoop.it
SEO social media tools, social network service, engagement, tag library, twitter...

There is no shortage of Twitter Tools.

For tagging content well, Saul Fleischman's team has a hunch you would prefer concise, tight data on tags related to your content, tags associated with a word string you provide.

Hence they are designing a tool that will help you isolate the best topics and tags to associate with your content – based on the constraints of networks that you share on and also based on topic/tag popularity on different networks.

Ready to try a new tool that lets you search a term and gives you the most associated tags – for numerous social networks?

They are taking beta signups – Ritetag is right here:  http://bit.ly/KeN9yZ ;
