10 Steps To Effective Listening

10 Steps To Effective Listening | Personal Branding & Leadership Coaching | Scoop.it

In today’s high-tech, high-speed, high-stress world, communication is more important then ever, yet we seem to devote less and less time to really listening to one another. Genuine listening has become a rare gift—the gift of time. It helps build relationships, solve problems, ensure understanding, resolve conflicts, and improve accuracy. At work, effective listening means fewer errors and less wasted time. At home, it helps develop resourceful, self-reliant kids who can solve their own problems. Listening builds friendships and careers. It saves money and marriages.

Stefano Principato's insight:
  1. Face the speaker and maintain eye contact.
  2. Be attentive, but relaxed.
  3. Keep an open mind.
  4. Listen to the words and try to picture what the speaker is saying.
  5. Don’t interrupt and don’t impose your “solutions.
  6. Wait for the speaker to pause to ask clarifying questions.
  7. Ask questions only to ensure understanding.
  8. Try to feel what the speaker is feeling.
  9. Give the speaker regular feedback.
  10. Pay attention to what isn’t said—to nonverbal cues.

Habits for success in school and life

Habits for success in school and life | Personal Branding & Leadership Coaching | Scoop.it

Take a moment to join us in a snapshot of a classroom we recently observed:

Students are hard at work designing a travel brochure as a part of their study of Ireland. They need to think about how much it will cost by air or by sea and develop a good rationale for why one way is preferable to another. They will also be including a recommended sightseeing schedule, determining why one schedule would be preferable to another.

Stakeholder Mapping for Collaboration

Stakeholder Mapping for Collaboration | Personal Branding & Leadership Coaching | Scoop.it

Collaboration is an important factor for successful innovation and change. Indeed, collaboration is an imperative for most organizations today, including any organization undergoing change. Innovation requires collaboration between individuals, as well as systemic forms of collaboration that span silos, networks and surprising connections. And yet collaboration cannot be mandated. Collaboration just doesn’t work like that.

Claude Emond's comment, July 14, 6:13 AM
Most stakeholder «management» tools and techniques are based on measuring (whatever it means) Power and Influence. This is mostly done without open discussion with the stakeholders and highly manipulative in its intent. It does not either consider meta game and alliance among unlikely collaborators. The model you found, Kenneth is thus a pace towards a better way, something that «engage» stakeholders instead of «managing/trying to manipulate» them. Thanks a lot :)

8 Steps To Building Your Personal Music Brand

8 Steps To Building Your Personal Music Brand | Personal Branding & Leadership Coaching | Scoop.it
Neil Patel freely shares his "Complete Guide To Building Your Personal Brand" which mixes notions of business image and personal identity in a manner that's quite relevant to musicians. Though some musicians would prefer to take a haphazardly organic approach to brand building that just leaves it up to others to decide who you are. But building your brand doesn't have to be a superficial process and Patel advocates the perspective that, "your personal brand is what separates you from everyone else in the world." In a tradtional marketing industry sense, a "brand" is the "name, term, design, symbol, or...
