Voxy - Learn a language from life | Personal Branding | Scoop.it

We don’t believe learning should be based on static content, memorizing verb charts, grammar rules, or learning vocabulary words out of context. That’s why we create engaging exercises with authentic language used by native speakers. We don't write lessons for you, we curate real-world discourse and turn it into lessons adapted to your language level.

Trip Hawkins releases second chapter of his 'If' iPad game for teaching kids emotional life skills

Trip Hawkins releases second chapter of his 'If' iPad game for teaching kids emotional life skills | Personal Branding | Scoop.it

by Dean Takahashi

"Hawkins — the charismatic founder of game publishers 3DO, Electronic Arts, and Digital Chocolate — has a new passion to teach children the social and emotional skills (SEL) that they don’t learn in school. He has a story-based app that gets lessons across that help kids deal with emotions and problems like bullies. But rather than launch it as a free-to-play game, Hawkins has gone a different route, releasing it instead as a subscription game....

"While the first chapter is free, subsequent chapters require a monthly subscription fee of $5 per month. Hawkins believes that parents will like this better than the somewhat risky free-to-play model, where children sometimes get into trouble by spending too much real money on virtual goods.

"Hawkins also said that each chapter will contain a few hours of gameplay as parents don’t want games to consume an inordinate amount of a child’s time. The dashboard app is a tool for parents to help monitor their children’s accomplishments and keep them motivated to do more.

"Hawkins said that the game is aimed at helping kids manage difficult emotions, persevere through challenges, make healthy decisions, and show empathy and compassion. As important as all of this is, most schools don’t teach it."

Teacher quits over emphasis on standardized tests: 'It takes the joy out of learning' - TODAY.com | Personal Branding | Scoop.it

A teacher in Massachusetts who has spent more than a quarter century in the classroom is drawing attention after she quit her job over her growing frustration with the school system’s emphasis on standardized testing.

Because of “so many things that pulled me away from the classroom and fractured my time with the children,” kindergarten teacher Susan Sluyter quit last month.

“It takes the joy out of learning for the children," she told TODAY. "It takes the joy out of teaching.”

Chinese Horoscopes Are Unique The Chinese horoscope is not the like the horoscope that Westerners understand. The Chinese brand-new year does not match the western calendar either. Each animal is given a set of personality type although this can alter depending where year the individual was born. These aspects related to the individual's character likewise affect every aspect of their life including their compatibility, lifestyle, and wellness choices. This means the way in which many Chinese individuals choose to live their lives. Chinese individuals put a great deal of focus on their zodiac sign and believe in Chinese horoscope. This suggests that if an individual is born under any sign, his moms and dads life choices will be determined by exactly what the zodiac states is the very best for him. They are free of cost to override these choices, many Chinese individuals choose to follow trough exactly what their sign explains for them. Chinese horoscope is an intrinsic part of Chinese life. Relying on the year, every sign has a variety of bad and good months which need to be a vital factor to consider when they are making decisions such as a business or journeys. The horoscopes are very specific about the advantages and bad things that can happen to an individual relying on their sign. The animal that stands for a Chinese individual likewise affects their character. Snakes are appeared like very instinctive individuals who can notice hazard and make rational choices quickly. Canines are thought about alert and very smart, makings the individual very appealing to the remainder of the signs. Pigs are appeared as likewise interested and smart in assisting others, and these individuals are extremely valued in their communities as they are leaders and inspirational individuals. Rats are viewed as versatile, which allows them to relocate from one place to an additional and discover the very best of each situation. The remainder of the animals are given certain personality type that specify them as individuals and differentiate them from their peers. Chinese horoscope likewise declares that certain signs are a match from others while some need to never ever gathering. This can affect the way that choices pertaining to marital relationship are made in China. Generally, the Chinese horoscope give Chinese individuals a set attributes of character that can specify an individual's life. This is so vital in this culture that moms and dads will set certain requirements for their children based upon their sign and their horoscope, making it a distinctive feature of Chinese culture. The Chinese horoscope is not the exact same as the horoscope that Westerners understand. Chinese individuals put a lot of attention to their zodiac sign and think in Chinese horoscope. 20+ Ways to Integrate iPad in Your PBL Classroom ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Personal Branding | Scoop.it

"Are you looking for some inspiration and new ideas on how to integrate iPad in your PBL based classroom? The graphic below from our colleagues in Teachthought is a wonderful start. Project based learning, as we have constantly argued in our previous posts, is a powerful pedagogical approach to learning and teaching. The core tenets underpinning the philosophy of PBL are grounded in socially collaborative and constructionist theories of learning. PBL enhances students learning through engaging them in real-life and authentic learning tasks and when coupled with digital media and technology, PBL can be more empowering to students."
