By Jeff Bullas

So Why has Content Marketing become Popular Recently?

More companies and B2B marketers are now recognizing the power of content marketing and the effect it is having on customer engagement and brand awareness.

The other enabling factor in this mix is social media because having great content is all good but it needs to be made “visible“.

Social media adds leverage and provides the free “distribution technologies” to your content that were not available before, this adds the “X-Factor” and increases visibility and buzz and creates marketing synergy that is hard to stop.

So What makes a Good Content Marketing Strategy?

According to the Infographic, it is quality, shareable content.

Content that people actually want to read, engage with and share.

Companies like Coca Cola are becoming early adopters, maximizing their efforts with unique, compelling content development (such as the Content 2020 campaign). BlueGlass Interactive, a leader in the internet marketing space, has recently partnered with Voltier Digital, an innovative digital marketing agency specializing in content marketing and data visualization techniques (ie. infographics).

The Content Marketing Explosion by the Numbers

So what is the current status of content marketing and what are the marketers plans for 2012?

90% of B2B marketers are doing some form of content marketing60% of B2B marketers plan to spend more on content marketing in 2012The major content marketing tactic is article posting at 79%B2B Marketers are investing on average 25% of their budget on content marketing (smaller companies are spending more)

Take a look at how content marketing has become a power source in marketing as a whole, and why it has become one of the fastest growing industries today.

Toronto is in the midst of getting hit by a massive rain storm, with totals reaching as high as 75mm of precipitation (some reports have as much as 90mm fallen at Pearson Airport). A procession of powerful thunderstorms is currently working its way through the GTA, causing localized flooding, power outages, and frowns all round.

Right now, the TTC says the subway system holding in key areas due to a series of signal and flooding issues. There are pockets which remain in use on the YUS line and the Bloor-Danforth line is running between Jane and Kennedy, but much of the system is shut down. There are also widespread reports of flooding at Union Station.

Streetcar service may be affected due to surface flooding but there are no reports of any issues with power. There are also reports of flooding on the DVP, 401, and several other major roads, including Lake Shore and Esplanade.

Widespread power outages have been reported in Toronto, while reports indicate that 70 per cent of Mississauga is without power. Both Square One and and Sherway malls have been evacuated due to flooding.

Pictures began to surface almost immediately of cars stranded in flooded underpasses, burst storm drains spewing geysers, and general soaking misery for thousands of rush-hour commuters. Here are some preliminary photos of the storm, with more to come shortly.

According to a recent survey, America’s Internet, broadband, cable, and phone companies – sometimes called “ISPs” are the most hated companies in America.

We’ve retooled New Networks to be able to not only give the you, your family and your company the skinny about what’s going on but we’ve got a plan to stop or reverse the phone and cable companies’ abuses as it’s out of hand.

The networks are not open: You can’t choose you own Internet or broadband or cable service over the wires in your home. In most of America, you either buy everything from your cable company or you have few, if any choices.

Fast? While Google has started to roll out 1 gigabit speeds in Kansas City, and some municipalities decided to circumvent the incumbent phone and cable companies, like Chattanooga,  AT&T, in 22 states, is still based on the old copper wiring –with a current top speed of 24 Mbps in 1 direction. The cable companies keep telling everyone that they have 100 mbps capability – but they aren’t selling it and it’s only fast in 1 direction.

Meanwhile, in Hong Kong you can get 1 gigabit for $25, in France you can get 300 Mbps in both directions, as well as TV and phone for about 45 bucks. – In your town…?

Authors sometimes need to be reminded to put down that pen, get away from the computer, and just have some fun! Doing so may tap into a creative side of themselves they may not have known existed.

After enjoying a hobby totally unrelated to writing, I made a surprising discovery--tapping into a creative part of my brain unleashed a torrent of words that had been waiting to pour out.

Read the entire article for ideas and find a hobby, test out a creative spree yourself, and see if the words don't flow a little faster.

Lots can be said about Twitter. You can come across a ton of posts providing tips, tricks and different strategies to get you followers and retweets.

All of this however brings a ton of different misconceptions. And on Twitter there are lots of “traditionalists” so to say – people who never take their social media presence a step further and who simply  follow the stereotypes.

Well in order to maximize your Twitter presence and get fresh traffic, sometimes you have to steer away from commonly adopted norms. Here are six truths about Twitter that you have to accept if you want to improve your productivity and results...

We all hear the benefits of blogging touted throughout the blogosphere. Heck, if you haven’t heard any of the so-called benefits, Jeff Bullas has written up 10 of them, any one of which is enough to convince me.

Today, however, I want to focus on one very specific benefit (not on Bullas’ list): A blog serves as the hub of your content marketing wheel.

As the hub of your wheel, all other content marketing efforts radiate out from the blog and shoot back into the blog....

I like this analogy and blog positioning.

Martin (Marty) Smith's curator insight, February 27, 2013 10:45 PM

Agree with Jeff. Love the analogy and the conclusion. I use Scoop.it as my hub because the feedback loops are faster. In my case, extending the analogy a little painfully, one wheel fires with Scoop.it in the hub and some of those "firings" are transferred over to the blog.

Blog time is more expensive than curation so I make content EARN its way into our blog, but I like the analogy even as I am extending it painfully.

Jeff Domansky's comment, February 28, 2013 1:33 AM
Totally agree with you Marty on time factor and it's getting tougher all the time. Scoop it has a very quick feedback loop as you say.

Many companies are still figuring out social media marketing. Businesses are starting to realize that Facebook and other social media channels can influence their target market to create massive traffic and sales.

...Today, if you can get your prospect to “like”, “comment”, and/or “share” your content on Facebook, you are indirectly marketing to their entire sphere of influence. One single “like” may potentially be seen by many friends on a person’s contact list.

It’s those secondary contacts that reflect how the audience has shifted dramatically and how the entire sales conversation is now different. It is the power of the amplification of conversations that start at “one to many” and then become exponential and move to “many to many”.

So how are big brands leveraging this power to their benefit?
Here are 10 ways that big brands are using Facebook to tap into this limitless potential....
